Eksingedalen is a valley in Hordaland. I think you will find it in the church records from Evanger

I correct myself Eksingedalen was a part of Evanger county from 1885 to 1964, after that it became a part of Vaksdal county. Prior to 1885 it was a part of Voss county....

But where to find the churchbooks is a little bit trickyer.....

I searched, but can not find the family I am looking for. Maybe someone else will have better luck.....

The person I am looking for is called "Ola B. Johnson f. Butledal frå Eksingadalen"
(from the Aetterbok for Kvam Vikøy, where his wife was from)

He went to America about 1882 and married there in 1893. His name in America was "Ole B. Johnson". The 1900 census says his birth was June 1858. The person I am helping ways Ole was the son of "Johannes and Karen".

Ole B. Johnson had a brother named Karl and sisters named Marta and Brita. The descendants in America says Ole used the name "Ole Butedahl or Butledal" in Norway, and took Johnson after he arrived in Iowa.

I am trying to find Ole's birth record, the 1865 census and where a farm called "Butledal" might be. I would be very grateful for any help!

Sorry but we need more informations.
Where have you found information about his parents and siblings?

If his father's name was Johannes maybe his real name was Ole B.(given name) Johannessen (fathersname) Butedal or Butledal (farm/place-name).
But I got no hit when I search on that farm/place.

Hi Margit,

I am amazed you found this family! I spent hours working on it with no luck at all. My original reference to him was his wife's history from the Kvam Vikøy Aetterbok. The parents and siblings were directly from the person I am helping. Where did you find the online information you mentioned? I have googled every variation of "Butedahl" I can think of with no results.
