I found Olaf H. Rodberg arriving at Ellis Island in 1898 from Moldaw (he was
19). His record said that he was going to live with his uncle O. Rodberg in
Worth, Iowa (my great-grandfather).
Question: is he really a nephew? He married Ole Rodberg's daughter
Josephine and i'm thinking that we was just from the same area and not
really her cousin.
thanks,
Linda

Hi Linda!
Yes, those names are sufficiently distinct to make a conclusion.
Margit added a bit more, as you have probably seen.
She also confirmed that my guess on Ole Johnsen is probably right.
I daresay you have a bit to digest now!
Olaf
What great information,
you have taken me back one whole generation.... I just know this is my
family!
thank you so much,
Linda

Hi Linda!
I susapect that the 'surname' was more likely Rødberg than Rodberg.
There are a number of farms by that name. There is one here in Selje
parish
in Sogn og Fjordane county that has an interesting name:
http://snipurl.com/8emr namely Simiane Abelsdatter Rødberg, b. 1849.
Too many things to be just a coincidence.
I also looked for an Ole Johnsen, b. 1848 in Selje and found only this
one:

Unfortunately, the 1875 census is incomplete (very!) so they cannot be
verified there.
I took a cursory look at the emigrants from Bergen, but didn't see
anything.
You might join NorwayList and post your query there. They have people
more
experienced in this area than I am.

Olaf
Ole Johnson Rodberg (born 15 July 1848) and Emma A. Abel (name on my
grandmother's birth certificate) (but the name "Simjana Rodberg" is on
my
grandmother's death certificate) (born 25 Jan 1849).
They came to the US (Worth county Iowa) in the 1880s with a
daughter-Josephine (born 1882 in Norway). They had another daughter,
Anna
Christine after they settled in Iowa. Anna was my grandmother.
How did they come to the US? When did they travel? Where did they
arrive?
thanks in advance for any help,
Linda
