Johan Olsen Gillund

Hi,

I am looking for any infomation about Johan Olsen Gillund. He was born about 1852
and left Norway for America in 1870 or 1871. I do not think he was born at Gillund,
and he was not living there in the 1865 census. I think maybe he lived at Gillund between 1866 and 1870.

norman-larson.jpg Services for Norman Larson of Minneota were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. Providing special music were Simone Ramler on violin and Val Buysse, organist, and Scott Josephson and Erin josephson, vocalists. Burial followed at Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
Norman, 89, died on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota.
Norman Silas Larson was born on May 23, 1919, in Nordland Township, to George and Josephine (Bjerken) Larson. He grew up in rural Minneota and graduated from Minneota High School in 1937.
On September 9, 1940, he was united in marriage to Lillian Gillund at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minneota. The couple farmed and raised their family in Island Lake Township.
Norman was an avid hunter of deer and pheasants in his early years. He also enjoyed riding horses, playing cards, and spending time with his friends and family on the lake.
He was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church, the Sons of Nor-way and was a member of the Island Lake Township Board.
Norman was involved with 4H and developed many friendships with other 4H families through various club trips and activities.
He enjoyed conversation, visits with friends, and brightened everyone's days with jokes and recollections of the past. His concern for others, especially his family, was a special gift that all who knew him appreciated.
He is survived by six children and their families: Judy Ramler, George, Michael and Kurt; Norma Fletcher; Carla and Dean Moll, Corinne and Craig; Steven and Kristine Larson, Erik and Andrew; Renee Laleman and Jon; Roberta and Scott Josephson, Erin, Adam, and Isaac; 10 great-grandchildren; and many favorite nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillian and brothers Alfred, Karl, and Elvin.

George Walter Gillund

The remains of George Walter Gillund arrived here last Saturday evening and the funeral took place last Wednesday. It was a military funeral in charge of the American Legion Post of Minneota. Rev E J Hinderlie officiated.

The deceased was a son of Mr and Mrs John Gillund, of the town of Nordland. He was born on his father's farm on March 9, 1889, enlisted in September, 1917, arrived in France in July 1918 and died of wounds received in action August 4, 1918, less than a month after his arrival in France.

The pall bearers were Alvin Larson, John Peterson, John Hinz, O M Sanderson, Leslie Dahl and P H Geiwitz.

Three volleys were fired over the grave by his former fellow soldiers, Clarence Anderson, Jack Johnson, A P Weingartner, Theo De Roode and Clarence Bang, Bjorn Holm and Gordon Gieseke, and J E McGinn who led the men who composed the firing squad.

Johan Olsen who Margit found is in Vardebergs - eie in 1866 - he is born at Valsaaseie so where he get the name Gillund from

Thank you both very much for your help. With a name like John Olson, this is quite a job!
I agree that Johan Olsen born 24 Feb 1852 looks like a probable candidate, but I just can't find anything that would show how he ended up with the "Gillund" name in America.
