Thomas Christophersen b. 1787 or 1788 in Beistad

I am currently trying to locate the birth of Thomas Christophersen Selen b around 1787 near Beistad. I looked in the 1801 Census and found him on the Selen farm in Beistad. It said he was 13 years of age so that put his birth around 1788 or so.

His Father is Christopher Thomassen and mother Marit Johnsdtr. Can someone please help me locate his birth record in the Parish records for Beistad. I noticed they were a Chronological list and I don't understand how they write them.

Hi Thomas,
The reason you don't find Thomas in the 1788 records for Beistad is that only the "konformasjon" records are scanned, the birth records are probably not available.
You can find Thomas being confirmed in 1804, i.e. about age 16, which is normal.

By the way I don't know if you can read Norwegian, but if you look at the 1801 census details for Selen you can see against the father, Christopher, "Bonde, nybygger paa samme sted i sel-fjeldet, uden agerjord og skytter" (Farmer, new settler at Sel-mountain, without arable land, and hunter). I actually used to know Selen quite well as my father, uncle and I used to go to that area every summer to fish for trout. Today there is a road up there, but in my youth it was a 3-4 hour hike to get there. It is quite high up, at about the tree line, and there is a string of lakes and rivers with plenty of fish, or at least it used to be.

I was wrong in saying there were no birth/baptism records for Beistad. The "kronological liste" in fact has the baptism record in the first column,

but I cannot find Thomas in the 1787-1789 records, but it isn't easy to read. The probability is also that Christopher, who in 1801 was a new settler in the area, moved there from outside Beistad so Thomas could have been born anywhere.

The bygdebok for Malm tells that Kristoffer Silderen and his wife (the parents of Thomas Kristoffersen) were "innflyttere"; meaning they were not born there (probably not in Beitstad?).
