I was wondering if anyone has information on the Syver Torkildsen family that lived at Kirkerod farm in Valer.
I was told he died at 52 but found a burial record in 1861 that showed he was 69 but then I can't find him in the 1801 census. Marriage record in early 1836(Dec 1835) shows he was 32 which makes 1803 but haven't looked at the parish records back that far.
Any assistance would be appreciated,

Hello
We had counting of population in Norway in 1801,1865 and some places 1875, 1885 and finaly in 1900. That is the reason why you can't find Syver in 1801, because he was born in 1803 and died before the counting in 1865.
I have tried to make a link to find Syver, I found him here as nr 12 for 1820 in confirmation record of Våler in Østfold.

Re: Kirkerød farm in Våler
Hello David
The parish register of Våler telling that Syver was christened 20. Mar 1803 and he died 24. Aug 1861. His age in the parish register must be wrong.
In the "Local History Book of Våler", written by Einar Pedersen, is a lot of information about Syver and many persons in his family.
Syver lived at Kirkerød farm from 1846 to 1861 when he died. He was son of Torkil Torbjørnsen and Berthe Toresdaughter. Syver married Helene Johannesdaughter in 1835 and they have 8 children. The names of the children was.:
Syver, b. 1836 cotter at Kirkerød
Baltser, b. 1838, owner of Havold (a farm in Svinndal, Våler)
Torkil, b. 1840, d. 1842
Torkil, B. 1842, owner of Fløterbråtn i Svinndal, Våler
Berthe Kristine, b. 1844, married to Arne Halvorsen, Gråten, Vastvedt, Svinndal, Våler
Johannes, b. 1847, owner og Grimsrød, Svinndal, Våler
Maren Johanne, b. 1852, probably emigrated to USA
Mathis, b. 1855, d. 1856
Johannes, the son of Syver, was owner og Grimsrød from 1875 until 1883. He married Maren Olsdaughter i 1875. Maren was a widow after Ole Pedersen and she was born in 1837. They have 5 children together.
Inga Mathilde, b. 1875
Syverine, b. 1877
Edvard, b. 1879
Hans, b. 1881. died as a young boy
Hans, b. 1882.
Johannes and Maren was not satisfied with the outcome at the farm. Therefore in 1883 they decided to emigrate to Minnesota in USA. Together with them went also their 4 children and also Petter Anton and Ole Adolf from Marens first marriage.
I the "Local History book" it is told that Maren and Johannes did it well in Minnesota. They left Minnesota and get new piece of land in North-Dakota. Later they sold the farms in N-Dakota and moved to Canada, where they made a farm called Grimsrød.
Baltser b. 1838 (the second oldest son of Syver) bought Havold in 1875. The great-grand son of Baltser is married to my next-cousin.
This was a little about what is written in the "Local history book of Våler".
Svinndal is a part of Våler.
If you understand Norwegian I can scan the pages and send them to you.
I am born in Våler and know the author of the "Local histoty book of Våler"
At last, a question. Are you a descendant of Syver or someone in his family ?

Re: Kirkerød farm in Våler
Thanks Inger and Bjorn,
I had been looking on the weekend at the parish records and found data. I am not a descendant of the Grimsrud (Kirkerod farther back). One of my grandfather's sisters married a Grimsrud in Saskatchewan and being the family genealogist, I have taken up the gauntlet to try and find out as much as I can. It was originally thought that the family came from Trondheim (came from my side of the family) but other Grimsruds had different information that makes a lot more sense.
I am wondering if the bygdebok might have information on the Grimsrød, Grimsrud farm?? I have found the births of Johannes Syversen and Maren Olsdatter and their children in the 1877-83 range. I have found when Johannes Syversen left (1883 but info over here was 1882) BUT I cannot find when Maren and the children left. Supposedly it was when Hans (b.1881) was 2 but I haven't found anything in the parish records or in the Emigrantprotokoller YET.
Any information you could direct me to would be appreciated. I looked in Skibvedt parish as that is where Maren was from but haven't found anything. I realize that sometimes the priest did not enter all the people but I cannot find a Maren, Edvard (b.1880) or Hans leaving from all the different ports from 1883-88. I used the patronym, Johannesen for the boys as well as Grim** to search.
Census records in America show that Johannes came in 1882 and the rest in 1884 but I already know that part of that is incorrect.
Any information on the children of Ole Pedersen and Maren Johanne Olsdatter (her first marriage) would be helpful as well. I think that there is incorrect names and more children named than really are. They lived at Grimsrud, actually I think that Ole was born there and when he died his wife inherited the farm. Johannes took it over. Not sure how the inheritance laws work over there. I'm sure the probate records would explain that.
Speaking of Norwegian information. If it is not too much trouble, Bjorn, if you can copy/scan the pages of the bygedok, I try to read the pages and figure out what it says but I'm not that good at translating. My mother's parents came from Norway and all my dad's grandparents came from Norway so, I do have Viking blood flowing through my veins and I try to learn as much as I can about my ancestral country.
Thanks for all your assistance.
