Voters lists

Legg inn av gj03752 » 1. mai 2020 kl. 12.07

Hei,
I was wondering if there are sources available for finding families in modern times.
I live in Australia and we have available to us electoral roles (voters lists) which show all voters who live in a household.
These roles are available up to 1980 for some Australian states.
They are very useful as a substitute for census records.

Do any similar record exist for Norway or is there another way to find family members together after 1920?
Thank you.
Chris.

Hi, Chris,

No, the modern sources are very scattered, as the rules on privacy are quite strict. If one is lucky, there are "bygdebøker" (local history books) with fairly recent information, or one may find death notices in newspapers with the names of the children etc. of the deceased.

You may have noted that there is a project going on to digitalize the 1920 census? According to plan, it will be published in December.

There are some municipal census lists for some cities 1920-1930: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/search ... c%5B%5D=ft

also some address books (Adressebok) have been scanned and is online. There was adress books for all the norwegian counties up til the 1970s, but I don't think all are online. The list is here (in norwegian): https://lokalhistoriewiki.no/wiki/Adressebok
and they are linked to the National Library but I don't think you can access them from abroad.

For More og Romsdal county up til 1934-1935 and I think you can access these from abroad: https://www.romsdal-sogelag.no/kjeldeskrift

Also some adress books at Digitalarkivet: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/search ... 5B0%5D=101 They cover Oslo up til the 1980s.
:) Tore
