On 4 May 1906, Valborg and her children left Norway for America. Valborg is listed as married, but Hans Christian Andreasen Vaastad is not traveling with her.

When Valborg and the children arrived in New York, they were not allowed in and were deported. Valborg took the children to Canada, where she married a man named John Gunderson and lived in Ottawa.

I am looking for the marriage record for Valborg and Hans Christian, which took place 1902-1903. I would also like to find out what happened to Hans Christian. Valborg married John Gunderson between 1906 - 1911.

I wonder if Hans Waastad may have gone to Canada to be with his wife and children. Maybe he used the name "John Gunderdson"??

Yes!

I found proof that Hans Waastad went to Canada and joined with Valborg and the children. He called himself "John Gunderson", and later "Hans Gunderson".

He died in Ottawa, Canada on 20 Apr 1916.

The father of Valborg was Gunder.

If Valborg wanted to remarry she had to be divorced to do so. Is it possible to find this?

She did not need a divorce because "John Gunderson" and "Hans Waastad" are the same person.

When John Gunderson died on 20 Apr 1916, he was using the name "Hans Gunderson". WHen their son Harold (born 1913 in Canada) died in 1964, Harold's father was listed as "John Hans Christian Wastad Gunderson".
