I am looking for the origins of my grandfather Martin Mikkelsen b.1863,
Sandnes, Norway, who came to the United States in the early 1900's.
he married, circa 1897, Elizabeth Forus, b 1871, Hetlands Norway.

Martin was a carpenter and cabinet maker and had his own cabinet shop in
Stavanger which burned in the late 1890s

According to the book:"Folk på Sandnes i 200 år" by Sevald Simonsen, his
father is Tønnes Mikkelsen b. 1840. d 1921. Carpenter Married 1867 to
Bergitte Aslaksen b. 1846. Martin was born in 1868 not in 1863 as you write.
his brother Ingvald was born1871, he married Hanna AAslandb. 1862. Another
brother Bernhard went America and died in 1892.A sister Berta Margrete
b.1882 married Lars Larsen. Another brother Olaf b.1885 married Jenny.
Brother Torvald b.1889 married signe Pettersen.

is some information on these people.

Bergitte OLSDTR. is born 14 Mar 1846 in Høyland, Rogaland,
parents are Ola ASLAKSEN Myrland & Inger Kristine Knutsdtr.
there is more information about her ancestors.

She married Tønnes Mikkelsen on 12 Dec 1867 in Høyland kirke.

Tønnes Mikkelsen, born 7 July 1840 Varhaug, Hå, Rogaland (per IGI on
familysearch.org)
parents are Mikkel Torjussen & Berta Margreta Svendsdtr.

There are good bygdebøker for both Høyland and Hå that could guide you to
more ancestors. Good luck!
