Help again guys & girls, Here's what I have win98,
lexmark83 scanner, am trying to scan a doc to notes in
Legacy. Scan first to "my documents" & it's OK yet when
I transfer to "notes" it's garbled & has a lot of
garbage. I've tried scanning to jpg, bmp, & txt. any
suggestions? Since I'm a "hunt & peck" guy I hate
trying typing the entire doc.

The image you scan is just that, an image. It is not editable text. To

obtain editable text that you can use in Legacy, or any other text
usage, you must use an OCR program to convert it to ASCII text. I use
WOCAR, a free program you can find at

http://ccambien.free.fr/wocar/index.shtml.en

You may also wish to go to the Legacy Site and sign up for their Legacy
User's Group. They can offer a lot of help.

Hello,

I take all documents, from scanner or from Internet and save as PDF files. To save it in PDF I am using the original Adobe software, but I have also tested other freeware programs to do this.

To get the PDF files into the Legacy I select "picture" (which is in fact multimedia) "Sound files", Select "all file types" and click on the the PDF file. The program ask for a name, and since only a few characters are shown I use a standard set of abbreviations that suits my type of files.

When I click on the "picture" of the file I want to see, the Acrobat reader is started automatically.

Good luck

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a PDF vs. other image
formats (e.g., JPG or TIF) when scanning and storing documents? I had been
scanning them as JPG (300 dpi), but I do have the capability to save them in
PDF format.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

It depends on what kind of documents they are. JPEG is designed for
photographs. PDF is for text and illustrations alike.
