Help Family Tree Maker
I am in need of assistance loading Family Tree Maker version 7. My
father recently passed away and left Family Tree Maker version 7 and
backup disk with all of our family geneology entered on Family Tree
Maker. I recently reformated my hard drive and need to reinstall the
program. I have tried the installation disk and the autorun and setup
files with no success. Does anyone have any ideas on possible next
steps? This loss of information would be a tremendous loss.
Thanks for your consideration and best wishes for the holidays.

Your files aren't lost as long as you have the files, plenty of folks
here can read and/or transfer them for you. So no worries there.
FTM may still have a downloadable demo that is basically the "family
archive viewer", perhaps you could download the current demo and try
to input the files into that?
If not, let us know the filename and someone here will be able to help.

Re: Help Family Tree Maker
What happens when you try to install the FTM program. Do you get some sort of
message? It might be helpful if you tell us what files are listed on the disk.
BTW, as another poster said, the genealogy information your father entered is
not lost. Those files are separate from the FTM software. If push comes to
shove, you can always buy a newer version of FTM but I think that's going to be
necessary.

Re: Help Family Tree Maker
Pat,
I have purchased a newer copy of FTM as you have suggested. Thank you
for your response. Best wishes for the new year.

Re: Help Family Tree Maker
Jack,
I am using Windows 200 NT Professional. When I insert the cd nothing
hapens. Using run and then browse I can access the files on the FTM
installation cd such as the autorun and setup files. But when either
of these files are selected in the run program nothing happens. It
appears for whatever reason the files won't load or be read on either
of my cd drives.
Thanks for your respnse and best wishes for the new year.

Re: Help Family Tree Maker
Dare I suggest you go to Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs and point to
the CD as the source for a new program?
Sometimes the blatantly obvious doesnt hit you in the face
