Preparing picture CDs
Hello----
I want to prepare CDs of very old family pictures and give them as Christmas
gifts to my children, nephews, nieces, etc.
I would like to be able to provide captions and comments to these
pictures-----not words written across the pictures, as I currently can do.
Is there a program that will assist me with this? Or do you have advice as
to the best way to do this?
Thanks---
Donna

Re: Preparing picture CDs
I use a program called Flip Album. It automatically generates a table of
contents and an alphabetical index. You can add comments to a picture. I did
several full text pages and added music. It was it took some fiddling in the
first version I got but it has been upgraded twice since then and I haven't
had a chance to use it. When you click on the edge of a page the page flips
like a real album. You can set it to automatically flip and designate the
speed.
Visit http://www.flipalbum.com and have a look at it. It is not a free
program although when I tried it out they allowed you to download a free 30
day trial. Mine was done with the sample I downloaded and I want to do some
more but have not had the time.
Just checked out the site and did not see any mention of a trial download.
Also much more expensive than mine though I have spent some money to upgrade
it.

If you don't mind software with the user interface in French then you
can try Diaporama (it's free) http://softchris.free.fr/diapo.htm It can

self-executable .EXE file and you can add sound.

I have done this sort of thing using Word (your favorite word processor
would probably do the same thin), then converting the file to PDF using
one of the free print drivers that converts the output to PDF format.
That way the recipient doesn't have to have a particular program (except
the free Adobe reader) to view the photos.
Another is to build an HTML file that the photos displays the photos as
thumbnails which you can select to see larger versions. The Camedia
Master program that I use Camedia Master from Olympus, downloadable for
purchase, about $20.00, from
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_secti ... aster4.asp, but I'm there are
a number of other programs that will do the same thing.

Donna, when I share photos on a CD like this, I make a "web" photo album
and then burn that to a CD. The program I use is called IMatch. I find
IMatch very powerful, but for some folks it's not the easiest program to
become familiar with.
Here's a few programs that may or may not do what you want:
Freeware programs
------------------
Cheez - http://www.daremon.gr/cheez/
PixVue - http://www.pixvue.com/
Archimage - http://www.bornet.es/archimage/ (scroll down the page for
english description)
JAlbum - http://jalbum.net/
Non-free programs
----------------------
CompuPic Pro and/or Proshow Gold - http://www.photodex.com/
IMatch - http://www.photools.com/
Paint Shop Photo Album - http://www.jasc.com
Adobe Photshop Album - http://www.adobe.com/digitalimag/main.html
Thumbs Plus - http://www.cerious.com/
ACDSee - http://www.acdsystems.com/English/Produ ... /index.htm
Another possibility is your CD Burning software. I have Nero Ultimate
Edition and it comes with a program called Nero Photoshow Express that
can do some things with photos too.
