Marvin Harold Anderson • 1918 - 2003

Marvin Harold Anderson, 84, Minot, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in a Minot hospital.

He was born July 21, 1918, in Charlson, ND, the son of Albert and Alvina (Froshaug) Anderson. He was baptized on September 1, 1918, and confirmed August 21, 1932, at First Lutheran Church, Keene, ND. He attended Sanish High School, in Sanish, ND. He then attended Minot State Teachers College and in 1941, earned a teaching certificate. He taught the 1941-42 school year at a rural school in McKenzie County. He was drafted into the United States Army on October 12, 1942, during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater and participated in the invasion of the Philippines and Okinawa. He achieved the rank of gunnery sergeant. He was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946. He returned to North Dakota and attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. Upon completion of his accounting courses, Marvin was employed by Traux-Traer Coal Company at Velva and Beulah, ND.

He married Odell Schammel on May 15, 1950 at First Lutheran Church, Minot. In 1958, Marvin accepted a position as an accountant with the American Hospital Supply Company, now known as Baxter International, Minneapolis, MN. He worked there for 22 years and retired in 1980. After his retirement Marvin and Odell moved to Sun Lakes, AZ to pursue their hobby of golf.

Due to health reasons the Andersons moved to Minot, to be near family. Marvin and Odell have been living at Edgewood Vista where they gained many new friends among the residents and staff.

Marvin was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He and Odell loved golfing and were avid golfers in their retirement years.

Survivors: wife, Odell, Minot; two sisters-in-law and 10 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Arthur, Lloyd and Raymond Anderson and sister, Myrtle Pierce.

Memorial Service: Friday, April 25, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Visitation: Friends may sign a register one hour prior to the service.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
