Requirements for Family Research Program

Legg inn av Matthias Pump » 13. oktober 2004 kl. 7.08

Hello All,

in the past years i tried a few computer programs for genealogy myself and i was never really satisfied with the features of one
single program. So i started to write my own program. Now i realized that maybe other people are missing special features, too,
and so i am asking you to tell me what you expect from a good program.

What topics could help you doing your family research?

Any input to this question is more than welcome, even if you think 'no, please no other program!' :-)

Thanks,

Matthias

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no other program!

The Wheel's been invented, now we're tinkering with tread and sidewalls.

The perfect program (for me) would have PAF 2.2's data-entry screen,
UFT's Events, FTM's age-at-marriage and age-at-death reports, and TMG's
data-analysis. It wouldn't allow quotes (") or parens in ANY field.
And it would use my preferred terminology for standard reports (the text
list of ancestors is an ahnentafel, the chart list is a pedigree chart,
and the list of people related to me through my GGF Chris is called
Descendancy Chart).

There are a million people in the Named City and each of 'em will have a
different take on what makes a perfect program.
