Confirmation records Kongsberg - 1736
I am trying find out if confirmation records exist for Kongsberg for the year 1736. I do not find them on the Digitalarkivet and wonder if they exist? I am hoping to verify Mads Olsen Modum (Braaten) who was working in the silver mines and was confirmed in 1736. Thanks.

I doubt they exist elsewhere, and the churchrecords for Kongsberg have confirmations registered from 1817.

Re: Confirmation records Kongsberg - 1736
Thanks for this information. I am puzzled as I read in the Flesberg-boka that Mads Olsen Modum (Braaten) was born abt 1719 in Modum and began working in the silver mines at age 14. He was confirmed in 1736. Since he would have been about 17 years old, I assumed he was confirmed in Kongsberg. How would the authors of the Flesberg-boka know this if there were no confirmation records in existence?
I also can not find any migration records to or from Kongsberg for this period. Do these records exist?
I appreciate any help I can get on my 5th great-grandfather.

Sometimes the date/year of confirmation is written in churchrecords when a person got married.

You are correct. However, when he marries Maria Willumsdatter on 14 Jul 1753 in Kongsberg only the names are given.

You can find confirmationrecords back to 1766 on Digitalarkivet. http://www.digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/we ... etanr=4178
The information is from the communicantprotocol.
Confirmation were introduced in Norway in 1736, but often it's not written in the parishregister. From 1812 (often some years later) were confirmation official a part of the parishregister.

Re: Confirmation records Kongsberg - 1736
Tusen takk! This was very helpful. I do not know how the author of the Flesberg-boka knew that Mads Olsen was confirmed in 1736. There were a few names listed in the Modum records for 1736, but I could not find his name. I suspect he was confirmed in Kongsberg.
Do you happen to know when churches began tracking people arriving or leaving a parish? I also do not find any records from this early period for Kongsberg or Modum or Flesberg where he dies in 1800.

Re: Confirmation records Kongsberg - 1736
Also information about arriving and leaving starts about 1812 in the parish registers. But the priests wrote from early 1700 a note to the people who left the parish, witch they gave to the priest in the new parish. There where baptism, confirmation and marriage written so the priest in the new parish had some information about the newcomers. Also some information about the characters is to find in these notes. You will find this at the archive after the priests at Statsarkivet in Kongsberg. It's not always notes back to 1700, but often.
