Er blitt voldsomt imponert over detektivarbeidet som gjøres på dette forum og våger meg derfor frampå med etter lysing etter min grandonkel. Det jeg vet er flg. Han ble født i Søgne Vest Agder 1. febr 1873 av foreldre Erik Syvertsen og Anne Tomine f. hhv. 1836 og 1837.
I Digitalarkevts emigrantarkiv står han oppført med utreisedato 11. april 1890. Alder 17 år - yrke snedker. Reisemål New York - Rodesed. Lenke nummer foran er: 17965 - 486.
Nå er jeg spent altså!

Erling...what is really interesting in this family, is where all the kids are born...NY, NJ and Eva, age 20 in 1920 was born in Norway.
The family must have just moved back to Brooklyn just before 1920, because the youngest child was born in New Jersey! (Elizabeth is 10 months old in 1920)...

This go so fast that cant absorb so much at at a time because : First: I am a novice in this game! Second : my english is poor and therefore I must strive hard to publish the mail, but I hope it moves forward.

Then at first. Edvards craft : "snedker" is according to my dictionary joiner?
Anyway It seems that Margit has got right person right now The birth date is 1. febr. in the church records. All these informations I have got fromyou must be discussed with other members of our familiy tomorrow.

A very interesting theme you mentions. Certainly I should like to know abouth my now living relatives i USA. And a new question: Edward had a nephew, - my uncle named Aanen (Andrew) Aanensen born in 1895 i Søgne who emigrated to USA in 1912 - 20 march.
65261 - 273 til USA CPRC.
He was never married. We suppose he lived in Broklyn and had contakt wih his uncle Edvard there. I do`nt know when he died but perhaps in the sixties?? His job? Is there anything called roofer?? But now i need to sleep on all exiting news from over there. More tomorrow.

Det stemmer forbløffende . Iflg kirkeboka for Søgne ble han født 12. jan. og døpt 27 jan. 1895. i Søgne kirke Han var reg. som sjømann da han reiste over - (faren var skipsfører) og etter det vi vet forble han vel singel hele livet. Han kom aldri tilbake til Norge.

Hei Hanner Line!
Må innrømme at jeg er ganske overrasket og "ør"over alle tilbakemeldingene etter at jeg som fersk grønnskolling skjøt ut en "blå pil" på nettet.
Den siste mailen fra deg ang dødsdatoen var spesiell interessant. Snakket nemlig med min søster nettopp som husket at hun faktisk ble kondolert med Aanen av faren til en venninne som hadde vært skolekameraten hans. Denne siste perrsonern døde nemlig tidlig i 1952 og hun mente dette måtte være en stund før.
Ellers mht. til yrket/profesjonen til Aanen så må jeg nok ha bommet der. Vet ikke såmye om dette foreløpig, men min søster hadde "hørt" at han en tid bodde i en campingvogn og kanskje drev en eller annen form for salg?? Han var likevel en velstående mann da han døde- men altså bare 57 år.
Ellers tusen takk for all hjelp. Jeg har bare drevet denne hobbyen i ca 1/2 år, men du verden så spennende og fascinerende. Nå mange personer og små detaljer flettes inn i databasen. Virkelig gøy altså. Det krever mye tid, men heldigvis som nybakt pensjonist gir det mange muligheter.

Tilbake igjen til deg Hanne Line!
En spesiell detalj i din siste mail - mellomnavnet "Buttorn". I kirkeboka i forb. med dåpen står han nemlig oppført som Aanen Guttormsen!. Faren Gustav Aanensen (min bestefar) var sønn til Aanen Guttormsen og bestefars søster brukte merkelig nok? etter/slektsnavnet Guttormsen.
Mellomnavnet Buttorn er vel sannsynligvis en amerikanisering av navnet Guttorm -oldefaren til Aanen.
Apropos navn, så har jeg et etterlat brev fra min mor og hennes søster datert i 30. des. 1921 der de gratulerer ham med den forestående dagen 12. jan
På kortet står Andrew Aanensen og adressert til Broklyn. Men kortet kom sannsynligvis ikke fram til adressaten. Det er stemplet på behørig vis - porto 5 øre!

I looked at the 1900 Kings co, Brooklyn census again...hmmm....
The census says "ollof" was born Jan 1897 in New Jersey, and Eva was born...well is says New Jersey, (born Feb 1899)...but it almost looks like at first "Norway" was written then, New Jersey was written over it...
It clearly says in the 1920 census that Eva was born in Norway...and it looks like it say something about her being "naturalized" (I think!!)...hard to read...

At first -thank you for your kind words abouth my english
As to Edvards jobb (snekker) joiner- cabin maker??. The last word seems more like a job in furniture? perhaps carpenter is better. He was only 17 year when he emigrated an lived in a small place on the country /parish by the coast in the southern Norway The few actual possibilities were fisher or seaman. Reason to emigrate?? But they lived besides a great saw-mill and his mother who was poor -became widow in 1874 with 4 small children - had a boarding hause there for the workers. (however, the sawmill collapsed - went bankeruptcy abouth 1900 -financial crisis !!- as to day perhaps )

My interest for this family in USA? I should like to find out how many descendants there are after the great grandpearents and ev. get contact whith now living persons. I have photos of Eric and Anne Tomine - from abouth 1870, in my database and perhaps relatives in USA have photos of Edvard and his wife. And the spouce Elisabeth? Ancestors from her? From where did she come? Oh yes, there ar many exiting questions.

OK...yes...snekker is a cabinet maker...this is usually a carpenter (tømmermann)...but the cabinet maker has more special skills, so he can build furniture, and cabinets (like you have in a kitchen!!)...
I see that in the censuses Edward is usually a carpenter. And in 1920 both Edward and his son, Arthur, are carpenters at "docks" (kai??) in Brooklyn. There are big ship yards there...so this may be where they are working?? Since the family is from the coast in Norway and also lived near a saw mill there, I imagine this would make sense!
With all those children from Edward and Elizabeth, you must have many slektning over here!
