Hugh Bigod died 1177

Legg inn av Gjest » 21. februar 2008 kl. 17.19

I am working on my BIGOD line, and my line goes as follows
Roger Bigod (about 1065-1107) md Alice de Toeni about 1088 and had
Hugh Bigod (about 1095-1177) he is said to have married Juliana de Vere
(marriage was annulled at some point) and had a son Roger (possibly born
1145?-1221)

Does anyone have any dates for the second Roger? If he was born in 1145, his
father would have been around 50 at the time. While it is possible, usually
it was past the time to be having kids, if they managed to live that long. Is
there a missing generation in here? I went thru some of the old posts in
this list, but did not see any that solved my problem. Can anyone help?

PS...at least I remembered to include the link this time...

We do not know when Roger Bigod was born, even within a decade. His
birthyear ranges all over from 1040 to 1066 !

We know that apparently his children by Adeliza were being born in the
1090s up possibly through the latter part of the 1100s as he himself
died in 1107. We do not know with any certainly exactly when he
married Adeliza. Probably sometime between 1066 and 1082 but possibly
as late as 1097 !

Wrong Wroger - this is the grandfather of the Roger Bigod whose birth
timeframe was questioned.

We don't know when the later Roger was born either, but his maternal
grandfather Aubrey de Vere was roughly a contemporary of his father Hugo
Bigod. Apparently late marriages such as this for Hugo with Juliana were not
all that uncommon.

Peter I was only addressing the top line in the post where he states
"I am working on my BIGOD line, and my line goes as follows Roger
Bigod (about 1065-1107) md Alice de Toeni about 1088"

I was only pointing out that these dates are not well-founded. I
wasn't addressing the remainder of the post.
