Hello group , Please tell me this : How do I release the clamps that
hold the processor AND Fan to the mother board ? , an ASUS A7 board with a
AMD athlon processor , I will be putting a FASTER one in the system .

Surely off-topic, but IIRC, it's just the reverse of the instructions
that came with your new processor on how to install it. A "medium"
size flat-blade screwdriver usually works... There's an indention or
notch that you can apply pressure to, and release first one side, then
the other.

genealogy. That would include topics such as genealogy applications available
in the various computing environments (Mac, M$oft, unix/linux), peripheral
devices such as scanners, databases, spreadsheets, and so on. Specific
hardware questions, such as yours, would seem to be outside the group's scope.

Keep in mind, please, that mine is not the definitive answer here, tho' I'm
pretty sure it comes close.

I can't believe that people are giving you trouble over this.

Use a hammer and chisel. Do not be afraid to really lay into the
processor to remove it. They can be difficult to remove. They are
typically removed in pieces. Sandblast to remove the smaller pieces.

Gosh. By that type of logic, you could be asking questions here about repairing
your car because you use it in genealogy research.

What's really strange about this is the method you used to make that cpu
decision is very unclear. Did you make your choice of processor on your own? If
somebody advised you on that, then why aren't you asking them these questions?
Your replacement processor, if it works at all and if you don't break something
during installation, may not even work. And if it does work, it probably won't
help you with your data entry as the processor is unlikely to be the bottleneck.
Maybe faster typing skills and a clearer mind?

I can't believe that people are giving you trouble over this.

Seriously though. On my AMD machine you put medium size screwdriver
vertically in a sort of slot in the clip. Press down reasonably firmly and
lean the screwdriver towards the processor slightly. The clip comes off with
the heatsink. Examine the new one before you start to get the general idea.

Take care not to slip or you dig a hole in the PCB with the driver

I'm the listowner of GENCMP-L (the mailing list gatewayed to
soc.genealogy.computing), and one of the original advocates for
the soc.roots split into the current soc.genealogy.* hierarchy.

It seems reasonable to be pretty mellow about topicality, so
long as things don't drift to quilting or skijoring or any
such.

one. Being on-topic means that there is some reasonable assurance of getting
knowledgeable responses to a question. Being off-topic doesn't just mean that a
newsgroup's bandwidth is being consummed by inappropriate posts. Being off-topic
also implies that the poster is being denied exposure to the proper body of
expertise but is being lulled into thinking they have been properly informed.
It's a disservice to not tell someone that they are off-topic and I believe it
was appropriate to do so.

In the current instance, the OP may very well get an answer to the one detail
question that he posed and it's no big deal regarding the bandwidth, but I
personally sense that he may not have fully researched what he is attempting to
do. For advice on that whole issue, he would be better served by posting in a
hardware group such as alt.comp.hardware where what he is doing would be
on-topic. He might wish to post there and explain what he is doing so as to
attract good advice and be better informed.
