Hi all,
I have a brickwall on my gggrandmother.
What I know:
Ingebor Gulbrandsd f. 1822/1823 in Valdres according to her son's obit
and biography
She also went by Isabel Gilbertson in the USA. She lived with a brother
Gilbert Gilbertson in the 1870 and 1880 census next door to her husband
and family. Her brother was widowed with small children. He was born
Gulbrand Gulbrandsen about 1829/1830 to Gulbrand Gulbrandson and
Ingeborg Jensd at Svenes, Nord Aurdal, Oppland.
I cannot find her in the emigrants from Valdres. She would have had a
son traveling with her John Knutson (aka Carl John Knutson f. April 11,
1851 in Valdres.)
In the census records I have different years of immigration, 1857-1859.
1895 census record of the son in Clay County of Minnesota states he has
been in the USA for 35 years.
Her death records states born in Norway, father: Gulbrand. Death: brain
went queer for her. I have her in all census records but 1875 and 1895.
(I have her family in 1875 and her son and family in 1895) She died
September 18, 1896 in Houston Town of Houston County, Minnesota.
She married Ole Hanson on July 23, 1859 in Houston County. They had two
sons, Martin f.1861 and Christian f. 1863, no strong dates on either.
Ole Hanson also had a son from a previous relationship, Andrew f.1843
in Norway. On his death record it states born in Norway, father Ole
Hanson, Mother Christie. I do not know which area of Norway Ole is
from.
Any ideas are most welcome.

Margit,

I have a similar confusion -- also a Gulbrand Gulbrandsen b. 1830 family
from Skedsmo, Akershus married to Marie Michelsdtr b. 1831 with son Marthin,
daughters Jule & Augusta immigrated in 1869 Naturalized in 1872 - the
Akershus, Skedsmo kirke records and the Skedsmo bygdebok historie had their
Norway information...

Regarding the US CENSUS, there are two separate dates: Immigration or
Naturalization -- and in my case they were a few years apart. May I suggest
that you take 1857 as the immigration date, and 1859 as the Naturalization
date.

Thanks to Sue Swiggum , I found them in the passenger registers to Quebec,
and on the Minneapolis via Chicago.
