Johannes Larsen.

Dear Sirs,

I apologize that I have to address you in English, but I hope to be excused.
The purpose of this letter is to seek the destiny of my great grandfather, Johannes Larsen Tysse.
In the Norwegian national archives in Bergen the last trace of him is that he left the vessel ”Sif”, registered in Bergen, in Buenos Aires December 9. 1886. According to
the people on the national archive it was not uncommon for sailors to flee the ship they were employed on because of the harsh condition on board.
There is no record that he ever returned to Norway again, nor can we find him in the immigrant lists to the USA. My guess is that he decided to stay in Argentina and apply for a citizenship in your country. At the time he left the vessel he was probably unaware of the fact that he was going to be a father. Over the years there are many
descendants of him in Norway.

Johannes Larsen was born in Tysse, Samnanger in Norway, June 21. 1863.
He was the son of Lars Johnsen Tysse and Christi Andersdatter.
Please keep in mind that Larsen could also be written Larssen. Tysse is the name of the farm that he came from. At the turn of the 18 –19 hundreds, people tend to change to the farm name as their family name.

I will be grateful for any information you can provide on this matter. If you are not able to find him in your archives, I would be very pleased to know what would be the right archive or institution to approach with this query.

If you prefer to answer me on e- mail, my address is: [email protected]

Best regards

Johannes was the son of Lars Jonsson Tysse in his first marriage with Kristi Johannesdtr Tysse (1829-1883). Lars came from Aadland in Fusa and was born 1835.

His second wife was Elseber Johannesdtr Tysse b. 1849

Lars was a cotter at Tysse, mentioned in 1865, 1890, 1900 and 1910.

Children from first marriage:

Johannes 1863
Jonella Gurina 1866

Children from second marriage:

Kristian 1885, married to Petra (no family name)
Lars 1888

Kristi Johannesdtr Tysse was the daughter of Johannes Hansson Tysse (1800 - 1875)
and his wife Marta Nilsdtr Svensdal (1802-1874)

They had four children (one is not mentioned in Samnager bygdebok 1)

You can read more about the family in Samnanger bygdebok 1, p. 760, 761 and 762.

Johannes Hansson Tysse (1800) was the son of Hans Monsson Tysse, b. 1752 and Kristi Hansdtr Tysse (1757-1853). I have a lot more about their ancestors, too much to write here.

You can contact me on [email protected] if you want me to send you more.

Marta Nilsdtr's parents were Nils Larsson Svensdal (ca 1765-1821) and wife Ingeborg Johannesdtr (ca 1762-1828). When they married in 1796, they lived on Höyseter but they were not from this farm so I don't know exactly where they came from.
