Han leter etter:My grandfather (Edwyn Hamilton) was born in Victoria, Australia in 1922. His father, James William Hamilton was born in 1881 in Eaglehawk (Gold Mining Town), Victoria, Australia and Died 1954, Victoria, Australia. His father, Frederick/Fredrik William Hamilton (or William Frederick/Fredrik Hamilton) was born approx. 1830 Frederickshald, Norway and Died 1902 Eaglehawk, Victoria, Australia. Frederick married twice in Australia and both marriage records state that he was born in Norway, his name changes with spelling and flipping around the first names and middle names.... Very confusing!! I have not been able to find any shipping records of Frederick leaving Norway or any records of him arriving into Australia. I have made an assumption that he arrived around 1848 per his death certificate. He married twice – first time in 1859 stating his name was William Frederick Hamilton, Born Norway and that he was 30 years old He states that his father is William Hamilton – Customs House Officer This puts his birth around 1829 Second Marriage 1868 stating his name is Frederic Hamilton, Born Norway and that he was34 years old He states that his father is Peter Hamilton – something customs This puts is birth around 1834 But as you can see 10 years between marriages and he has only aged 4 years. His death certificate. 6th July 1902 – states his name as William Frederick Hamilton – Miner died age 72 This puts his birth around 1830. Father is named as James William Hamilton – Master Mariner Place of Birth states Fredrikshald Norway 54 Years in Victoria This is how I have made the assumption on arrival to Australia. As you can see, this man is frustrating me, with all the changes in details on legal documents. It makes it hard to work out what is true and correct and what was not. I have made several attempts to look at the Norwegian Archives, but it is difficult to follow and clearly the HAMILTON name is not Norwegian. Are you aware of the Hamilton name in Norway? We as a family have always assumed that the family line came from Scotland. I look forward to hearing back from you and hoping we can find some sort of a connection. Best Regards Brooke
