Does anyone know of a way to generate a text file, of just the notes, from a
PAF 5.0 database? I'd like to move to PAF 5.0 but I hate to lose the many 3rd
party utilities of PAF 2.31. The GetNotes utility is very useful for finding
a person's ID# when you remember some keyword associated with someone whose
name you can't remember, or spell correctly...such as "John FENSTERMACHER",
who was a medic in WW II.
Thanks

You can try Legacy Familytree. Standard version is 100% free.
Direct import from PAF 2.31

Uhhh, I'm not sure I understand the problem? Then again, I never used
GetNotes...not to say, never heard of it. (g)
I always used Focus-(Notes) to find things in the NOTES. It still works
in PAF 5.

Thanks for both replies, Cheryl. I hoped that there'd be a clever way to do
both things with PAF 5.0 I'll give them a try.
As for GetNotes, I took that from the old PAFCTOOLs utility. It had both a
GetNotes and a PutNotes among other things. PAF 2.31's editor was so bad
(remember?) that the combo of both was a handy way to edit notes with a text
editor and put them back in a database. Good for a batch change of e-mail
address changes, etc. I see PAF 5.0's editor is a lot better.
I use PAF 5.0 occasionally when I want a decent Descendancy Report since
GenBook (remember?) isn't as easy to use. I have Legacy, but don't really
want to use it since it will mean learning a whole new program with all it's
attending quirks. I've got engough to do as it is.
Thanks,
Don
