I am having a difficult time finding Rjukan in the census records. I can find the scanned records and they say at the front of the book, Tinn, but I can't seem to find anyone I'm looking for in 1900 in Tinn records. Maybe it is under Notodden but I can't seem to find the right parish in the census. Any assistance in finding the right parish for Eistein Helgesen Buen and Dagmar Kristiansen (m. 31/3/1915 - found in Rjukan parish records #13) would be much appreciated.
I think that Dagmar may have come from Buskerud, Sansvaer by searching the 1900 census for Hedenstad? (Hedenshod) the gardsnaven it says she is living or born at.
Thank you for your time and efforts.

Re: Rjukan
David! No wonder you find Rjukan in the 1900-cencus: It didn't exist at that time. The construction and work to establish this new industrial community started in 1907. Some of the church books (Tinn parish, Dal subparish) here on the net covers the time after Rjukan was established. Then you have to look through the book page by page to find your people.
Re: Rjukan
Thank you for that information. I can't seem to find them in the 1900 census in Tinn so I will have to do a more thorough search on the weekend.

Re: Rjukan
And you will never find them in the 1900 cencus for Tinn, simply because they didn't live in Tinn at that time.
Correction to my answer yesterday:
David! No wonder you DON'T find Rjukan in the 1900-cencus

Re: Rjukan
Hi David
Here is almost the full text in the church records from Rjukan when they married (in Norwegian):
Telemark, Prestegjeld/sokn: Rjukan, Klokkerbok I 2, 1913 - 1920, Statsarkivet i Kongsberg
1915 D. I egetskap indtraadte. s142 http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-142
13, 31/3, 1, Eistein Helegesen Buen, Jondalen, 1886, Jondalen 1900, Grb. Helge Østensen, Lagersjef O. J. Lunde, Rjukan
1, Dagmar Kristiansen, Hedenstad, 1895, Hedenstad 1909, Grb. Kristian Kristensen, Kemiker Aasmund Haugen, Rjukan.
It means that Eistein is born and confirmed in Jondalen and his father is farmer Helge Østensen most certain living in Jondalen. Jondalen is a valley outside Kongsberg town. Local parish is Jondalen.
Dagmar is born and confirmed at Hedenstad and her father is farmer Kristian Kristensen most certain living in Sandsvær or at Kongsberg. Local parish is Hedenstad.
So both are easily traced from this information, I hope.
More to come later.
Best regards
Asle Olaf

Re: Rjukan
Wow, thanks, I much appreciate your efforts. The information will assist me in going farther back.
It was very difficult to research as there seemed to be a lot of ways to spell Oystein. Also I don't know much about that area, since it is not in my direct line.
I will go about more research on this later. Got to get my class' report cards done.
