Re: jobor station
Perhaps you mean Jåberg station?
Could it be your grandfather worked at the railway?

Hello
If you enter "WWW.jernbane.net" you will end up on the homepage of an org. that registers history and things concerning railways.
On the left side, on top you will find "mitt jernbane.net", and there is a meny, "om jernbane.net/kontakt oss! (contact us).
If you send them an E-mail, may be they can help you to find out if your grandfather lived and worked at Jaaberg station. May bee they have acess to personell-listings or can point you in the rigth direction. The buildings are now gone, but there are 4 pictures of the area on the homepage.

Railway staff often had the duty to live in station buildings, to be called out on a short notice

Re: jobor station
Jåberg station was closed down in 1978. However, I'd be surprised if it's not possible to find a photo of it. You could try contacting Sandefjord Bibliotek (library) : http://www.sandefjord.folkebibl.no/tjen ... rants.html

Her er et bilde fra Jåberg stasjon, ukjent år. Dessverre har jeg ikke notert meg i hvilken publikasjon bildet sto.

Ref. to the picture from Jåberg stasjon (Jaaberg railwaystation).
It is from the book; Vilhelm Møller's bygdebok "Sandar" bind 1 1977 side 122.
Thanks to Vidar Røhne Nilsen (dn04618) for information about the source.

Re: jobor station
Jåberg is in Sandar, but Jåberg station is also near Tjølling. I called the church office in Sandefjord, and they checked Sandar for me for 1939 and one year ahead without any result. They will check with Larvik and Tjølling as well next week.
I have in addition, sent an email to the National Archival Services at Kongsberg who has all the records for this area, asking for the birth registration for William Harry Nilsen born 17 Jul 1939. Will let you know when I get a reply. Unfortunately I was at Kongsberg yesterday, but didn't see this until now. I could have checked while I was there...
Best regards,
Petter Stene

Re: jobor station
Ole,
I've received the following from Kongsberg:
We have found the person in Birth Records 4 (1937-1944 for Sandar. Record number 99 on page 57 (1939)
Born: 17.juli
Name: William Harry Nilsen
Parents: Sigbjørn Herman Nilsen, anlegsarb. f. 27/3-02 Fjære
h. Esther Othilie Bommen f. 18/12-09 Kongsberg
Residence: Jåberg
The parents married in : 1932.
There are no details on where they lived except Jåberg. Until a cencus becomes available that tells you excectly their place of residence, I cannot think of any sources that can tell you where he was born. Maybe if they didn't move, there may be school records...
Best regards,
Petter Stene

Re: jobor station
Hello!
I'm glad to see that you had a lot of answers and information about your relatives at this forum. That's great! It is also many years ago... but if you're still in here, I just want to tell you that my parents bought all the timber some years after Jåberg stasjon was teared down. From the timber and all the wood they built a nice little "stue" (cottage) in the mountains plus a little shelter and an annex. They really got themselves a beautiful place with a lot of history in the walls!
Just a funny little story.
Have a nice day

Re: jobor station
Hi Ole Vidar
At this time it was a private birthhome in Sandefjord, but apart from that i have the impression it was still common with homebirths in 1930s, so your father could have been born at the station. If he and his parents lived at Jåberg stasjon for some time, until he reached age of schoolstart, i would reckon that you could find him in the schoolprotocolls for Førstad/Furustad skole, which is just 2 kms from the station. These protocolls are kept at the old city hall for Sandar herred in Sandefjord. It should be possible to get information from these protocolls up until 1950.
