Ole Hansen, Eiker prestegjeld

Hi!

I am looking for information on Ole Hansen. He married Maren Olsdatter in Øvre Eiker on August 24, 1860. The marriage record lists his father as Hans Kollen. The 1865 census lists his birth place as Gudbrandsdalen. He was born about 1833, but I am unable to find any information on his birth or death. I know he died before 1900, as he is not listed with the family in that census.

Ole's wife, Maren, was born on 30 Mar 1838 in Præstegaard, Øvre Eiker, the daughter of Ole Nielsen and Trine Thorsdatter, and died on 22 Dec 1919 in Braatenbakken, Øvre Eiker.

Ole and Maren had at least five children:

Carl Hartvig - b. 7 Oct 1860 in Præstegaard, Øvre Eiker
Olaus - b. 2 Jan 1863 in Sem, Øvre Eiker
Johannes - b. 19 Aug 1865 in Præstegaard, Øvre Eiker
Nils - b. 13 Dec 1870 in Præstegaard, Øvre Eiker
Ole - b. 26 Nov 1876 in Præstegaard, Øvre Eiker

Johannes immigrated to Wisconsin in 1893 with his family, but the remaining family all stayed in Norway.

Hi,

Ole Hansen Haugen, born in Lesja, Gudbrandsdalen died 14/4 1876, 42 years old.

7 sons, with Ole born after his fathers death.

Hans born 1868 and Martin/Marinius born 1874.

I believe the cotters farm Haugen u/Haug prestegaard is at Braatebakken.

Thank you very much for the info. I was able to find Hans's birth in digitalarchive, but will need to wait for Ole's death and Martin's birth until those years are posted on the digitalarchive for Eiker/Haug. Thanks also for the info on Braatebakken, as I hope to visit this area next year. I assume there is a cemetery in the area.

Is there any chance one might have the parents names or birth date of Ole in Lesja circa 1834? If not, any recommendation to narrow the search?

There are a few Ole Hansson born in Lesja parish (including Dovre sub-parish) in the years around 1833, see church records online here: http://www.arkivnett.ol.no/dbsok/ekb.asp

But the surname (farm or cottar's place) of Ole's father, Kollen, is unusual in the parish, and not linked to any of the Ole's of the right age.

Hi! Thanks for the link for the Lesja church records. I did find this Ole Hansen, born in Lesja in 1834. The farm is listed as Kaallen. I wonder if it might be a transcription error by the Parish pastor in Eiker, as that pastor may not have been familiar with the name.

Sorry, I overlooked him in my own copy of the database. As far as I can see the parents, Hans and Kari, got 3 more children under the (place) name Kollen: 1827, 1831 and 1839. Those christenings are in the Dovre church.

I recommend you post an inquiry under Oppland --> Dovre. There are several Dovre genealogists following this forum.
