Modums historie vol. 2
I am trying to find information on Inger Monsdatter. She is cited on page 186 in vol. 2 of Modums historie. Can anyone help me with this information? Tusen takk!

Re: Modums historie vol. 2
The vol/page you are referring to covers a chapter on schools in Modum. The paragraph in mention says that Inger Monsdatter was married to Ole Olsson, a schoolteacher presumed living at farm Tandberg in Nykirke parish. In 1787 he was mentioned as a godfather in a maternity ceremony at farm Brekke. Ole and Inger got a son named Hans 17 Nov 1787 and a daughter named Maria 14 Feb 1789.

Hei Kjell!
Mange tusen takk! Unfortunately not the Inger Monsdatter I am seeking. My person was alive and having children in the 1740s and 50s and was married to Mads Olsen Flattum.

Re: Modums historie vol. 2
One Inger was christened 20 April 1721 in Heggen church, father named Mons Johannesson from farm Østre WigerEje link (# 32). Good candidate for 'your' Inger ?
Mons Johansson was engaged to be married on 7 May and was married 6 October 1718 to Mari Tostensdatter link . The numbers 1 and 2 seems to be attached to Mons and Mari respectively, probably indicating that this was 1st marriage for Mons and 2nd for Mari ?
According to FS this couple got at least two more children, daughters Siri in March 1719 and Rønnov in December 1741.

Rønnov Monsdatter died in December 1741, 18 years and 3 weeks old - she was born 1723 link (# 102)
Re: Modums historie vol. 2
I believe you found the correct woman born in 1721. What I am trying to find is more informaiton on her husband Mads Olsen Flattum.
I thought I had the right man baptized 12 Aug 1719 in Modum. However, there is also another man with the name Mads Olsen Braaten living and married in Kongsberg at the same time. The Flesberg-boka believes they are the same man. I think there are two Mads Olsen's from Modum born around 1719. The Family History Library has a record for one Mads Olsen baptized 19 Aug 1715. But I cannot find the record in the Digitalarkivet records. Something is wrong.
I don't think my 5th great-grandfather had two families at the same time in Modum and Kongsberg!
Hilsen,
Robert

Re: Modums historie vol. 2
I have rather thoroughly read thru the records for christened children in Modum for the years 1712 thru 1720, finding just three boys being given the name Mads – only one of which had a father named Ole. I think this is a good indication that the Mads Olsen you thought was ‘your man’ actually is the right person.
When he, as a widower, remarried in 1748, his second wife Inger Monsdatter was staying at farm Breke-eie and they were still at Breche in 1765. This is from a tax assessment register in Modum 1765 - Mads Olsson with wife Inger Monsdatter and daughter Siri at farm Breche link

Re: Modums historie vol. 2
Hei Kjell,
Everything you found is true except while Mads Olsen is having a family in Modum, my Mads Olsen Braaten marries Maria Willumsdatter in 1753 in Kongsberg and is also raising a family. He can't be in two places at the same time. I found today a Mads Olsen Sæterberg born in Modum to Ole Olsen on 15 Aug 1725. And I discovered that Sætersberg is a farm next to a farm called Braaten in Modum.
Mads Olsen born 19 Aug 1719 definitely married two women, Karen Jensdatter and Inger Monsdatter. But I do not believe he is my ancestor. My ancestor was born in Modum, but emigrated to Kongsberg and then Flesberg where he dies in 1800.
I don't know how to find information (if it exists) on Mads Olsen Sætersberg born 1725 before he marries 1753 in Kongsberg. It is still important to prove I now have the right man. I probably need to find if he had siblings and what happened to them. Maybe they also moved to Kongsberg.
Mange tusen takk for hjelpen me.
mvh, Robert

Re: Modums historie vol. 2
Hello Robert.
I have a list of workers for the silver mining company from 1765. Her i find a Mads Olsen Modum, 35 years old, from Ringerike. He had worket in the mines for 21 years. He was married and had 2 sons, one of them working for the mining company as well. I believe this must be the one you are lookinf for.
Age is not always correct in these lists. It could be several years wrong. I think you should look through a few more years og the Modun church books and see if you can find more Mads Olsens. I believe that Modum partly belonged to the area called Ringerike in those days.
You probably are right in concluding that Flesberg bygdebok has got the wrong Mads Olsen. He is said to be 80 years when he died in 1800. This is a round number and probably he was some years younger. Have you checked probates in Modum for the relevant farms? You could send an email to the archives i Kongsberg and ask if they can look it up for you ([email protected]). The probates are sorted on farm names so you should probably try to find some more candidates first.
mvh, Bjørg

Re: Modums historie vol. 2
Hei Bjørg!
This is great news. Finally I have some substantial information. I believe you have found the correct person. I still believe there is a chance that I found Mads Olsen being born in Modum in 1725. In Tov Flatin's Flesberg book, he says that Mads Olsen Modum was 78 years old when he dies in 1800. That would make his birth 1724. So we are getting closer to the truth.
It is amazing that the silver mine records exist. Mads Olsen buys the Graaten farm in Flesberg in 1765, but doesn't move there until 1766. And at that time he had two living sons.
I will take your advice and also look in surrounding towns of Hole, Norderhov and Eiker. Do you know if the skifteprotollar for Flesberg and Modum are located in Kongsberg?
Thank you again for your help. It is very much appreciated.
mvh,
Robert
