Even Olsen Walhovd - born ca 1795

Hi,

I am trying to find any further information on the paternal line of Guri Evensdatter Vinjer born 30/4/1826 in Vinjareie. Though Guri Evensdatter’s parents were married (Even Olsen born ca 1795 and Gunhild Gulbrandsdatter Bakken, born 1797 in Bakken) I am unable to find any further information on Even Olsen born ca. 1795. He is named Even Olsen Walhovd which appears in Guri’s christening and confirmation records but I gather that is where he was living at the time. Is anyone able to help with that? It is unusual that I have been able to trace back the maternal lines of this family and not the male line as usually it is the females who are elusive!!

Do you have any ideas where I could start looking to find out any information regarding her husband Even Olsen? I only have the farm names Valhovd though the family did live at Skjørlieie and Vinjareie at some stage before obviously returning to Valhovd as that is where they were living when Gunhild died. Is there anywhere in particular I could look to discover where Even came from prior to his marriage?

Walhovd is a farm in the municipal Land in Oppland, but I cannot find the farm and Even in the 1801 census in Land. So I guess we have to look in the neighbor communities.

Parents not married. Father from Berg in Biri and mother from Vardal. I guess they baptized him in Land to avoid gossip. (Land is now divided into Nordre Land and Søndre Land )

I know it is not a certainty however it does look promising because: Even Olsen and Gunhild Gulbrandsdatter had 4 children - Ingeborg, Ole, Guri and Marit. Though I know they are common names of the times it is interesting to note that of their 4 children 2 have the same names as his parents (Ole and Marit)!! Ingeborg is the same name as Gunhild's mother. Gunhild's father was a Gulbrand so I wonder if Guri is the female version? I was unable to find anything in Land in the digitalarkkivet so wondered if Even came from somewhere else.

I have tried looking at this Even Olsen. I have him in my genealogyprogram along with many other families from Land area.
Hi wife Gunhild died in 1832 as you know. The bygdebok from Torpa says that Even moved to Onsrudeie in Biri in 1837. It is confirmed by the out and in moving records from Land http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 890338.jpg (bottom of the right page)
Further Even can be found married a second time in Biri 18 Nov 1837 to Karen Larsdatter Onsrud. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 680573.jpg

Even and Karen had at least 2 children Kari and Stener who both where living with Even and Karen in the 1865 census. http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft ... 8066005805

The marriage record between Even and Karen shows that Even`s father was named Ole Evensen ,and that Karen`s was Lars Halvorsen.
The 1865 census tells Even to be born in Land ,but I haven`t looked much around to find his parents ,but Ole Hansen and Marit could be the right parents even if the marriage record says that his father was named Ole Evensen. Though.....it is an Even Olsen in Toten with a father Ole Evensen ,and this Even in Toten was born abt the same time as your Even Olsen Walhovdeie.

Also found a Even Olsen Skinderlieneie born 1797. His confirmation record says that he was christened 9 Feb 1797 ,and confirmed in Kinn church in Torpa, Nordre Land 1815.

His parents is said to be Ole Larsen and Mari Gulbrandsdatter ,but where was this Even born??

Your Even Olsen and Gunhild Gulbrandsdatter was also married in the Kinn church ,so.....guess this Even could be the one you are looking for??
Not easy to tell.....at least not if the marriagerecord for Even`s 2nd marriage in Biri is right about his father being Ole Evensen.

Here is one of the couples from the previous post Ole and Kari. Their son is 3!!! should be 7, so maybe this boy died and they got a new Even. That is just good, because the age fits better. Or the age is very wrong in the census.

Hmmm.. A few contenders there now!! I suppose the most obvious thing is to look for the father's name as being Ole Evensen first since that is what is on the marriage record. Looks like he was born ca 1797 as 2 records I saw stated his age count back to this birth year.
