Fredricka Paulsdatter of Dovre born about 1768
My four great-grandmother Fredricka Paulsdatter was born about 1768. There are many Pauls living in Lesja and Dovre at this time, but after many years of research, I cannot find the baptism of my ancestor in this area. She was confirmed at Dovre church on 19 June 1784. She is listed as being sixteen years old from Skaaderhaugen:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... x_side=-38
I have very thoroughly searched the 1801 census. There is no record of her as living anywhere in all of Norway in 1801. She married Ole Olsen of Fossen on 15 February 1804 at Dovre church. She was listed as being from Moldalen and a piga:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-311
They had two children: Ole Olsen born 20 February 1804 at Moldalen:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-312
and Joda Olsdatter born 26 March 1809 at Elverum:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... _side=-363
Fredericka Paulsdatter preceded her husband in death on 27 November 1845, dying at age 77 at Elven and buried on 15 February 1846: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... x_side=-15.
I would appreciate any information that anyone can provide on this family. Larry Justad

Re: Fredricka Paulsdatter of Dovre born about 1768
Hi Lawrence,
Saw that you have not any answer yet, so I figured I can look thru the "Book of Dovre" and find out what is said there about Fredrikke Paulsdatter. In book no 3, page 148, is listed the small farm -"husmannsbruk" Elven. A property of the farm Ekre.
Ola Olsson and Fredrikke Paulsdatter were the first tenant farmers there. Ola Olsson is from the farm Fossen, born 1771-1847, and Fredrikke about 1770-1845, but origin "unknown" it says. It is also said that she had two children before marriage, son called Sigurd, born 9.3.1794, a daughter Ragnhild, born 11.11.1800, by two different fathers. Her two children with Ola are named Ola and Joda. Both were later users of this farm, "Elven". Ola left Dovre for Rennebu in South-Trondelag in 1835. Joda move to a farm called "Fjoere", Dovre in 1848.
After that people from other farms took over the farm Elven.
Whether she was of "Gypsy-background", the book says nothing.
Possibly this was nothing new to you, but I figured I could let you know what I could find.
Good luck with more!

Dear Tove,
Thank you very much for your input. I did not know that Fredricka had two illegitimate children before marrying Ole Olsen (I am a descendant of their son Ole). I also did not know that they were the first to farm at Elven and that it was a property of Ekre.
Do you have any information about Ole Olsen, who married Fredricka? I have tried to find out who his parents were, but there are so many Oles born about this same time. It is extremely confusing.

Re: Fredricka Paulsdatter of Dovre born about 1768
Hi Lawrence,
I just did a search for all of Norway in the 1801-census, and found a Fridriche Poulsdtr. as servant, and 27 years old at the "Prestegaard in Nannestad", in Akershus - "Aggershus fylke". Also a Marie Poulsdtr. 24 years of age. Could she have worked there for a couple of years?
However her first two children were born 1794 and 1800, and they are not mentioned there...
I will check what it says on the baptisms of these two.
Ola was living at the farm Hinde in 1801, as "innerst" - a sort of tenant on a farm. He was a shoemaker of profession then.
I'll check what I can found out more about him.

Re: Fredricka Paulsdatter of Dovre born about 1768
I have found the baptism of Ola Olson, born 14th of June 1771. Parents Ola Olson (!)Fossen and Mari Martinsdotter. "Illeg. child", meaning the parents were not married. Here is the connection: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 470419.jpg.
In Lesja churchbook of 1732-1776, page 629.
You can see that Ola was baptised in Lesja church, closer to this church than Dovre. You may be able to find forefathers of Mari Martinsdotter, between "fadder".
In the "Bygdebok for Dovre, book I, page 218, under the farm Fossen, under Dombaas, Ola Olsson, born 1738, had this son Ola before he married Anne Olsdotter from Kaarboe, Lesja. It says they married in 1794, but it must be 1774! They had a daughter Kari born 1774.
It says then that Ola earlier had the son Ola with Mari Martinsdotter. This boy was in 1801 shoemaker, and lived at Hinde. He married in 1804 Fredrikke Paalsdotter Moldal (?), and called himself Fossen.
The grandfather, father of Ola Olsson born 1738, was Ola Eriksson, born about 1675, died 1757, married Marit Olsdotter, 1697-1780, otherwise unknown.(......) But the author assumes that they (Ola and Marit), are the first farmers of Fossen, on the western side of the river Laagen. However, it is not known where they came from......
However Ola and Marit had 8 other children, other than Ola, and I am sure they are several descendants after them!
Ola's brother Svein took over the farm.
I'll try find the two children's baptisms tomorrow, Fredrikke's children.

Re: Fredricka Paulsdatter of Dovre born about 1768
Wow!
Thank you so much! I've researched for many years trying to determine which Ole Olsen born around 1770 was my ancestor, and you've answered my question. Thank you very much.
I am now more confused than ever about Fredricka Paulsdatter. She had those two illegitimate children- Sivert Sivertsen in 1794 and Ragnild Ericksdatter in 1800. Neither she nor her two children seem to be in the 1801 census. Could it be that the census skipped her and that a new born baby such as Ragnild would not have been included in the census? There does not seem to be a death listed for a Ragnild Ericksdatter in 1800 or 1801. I have found a Sivert Sivertsen who was nine years old listed as a "pleiebarn": http://www.digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/we ... =2304#ovre Could it be that she gave him up for adoption to these people? It looks like the father of this child had the same name, Sivert Sivertsen, and was living at Ekre in the 1801 census.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you so much for your help.
Sincerely,
Larry Justad

Fredricka had a son Siugurd born 1794 not Sivert.
Siugurd was born 9th mars and bapt 30th mars 1794.
Father Sivert Ekre (soldier)
Ragnild was born 11th nov 1800. Bapt 30th nov 1800
Her father was Eric Guttormsen Eyede.
Eric married Anne Iversdatter Dalen in 1801 (Folldal)

Re: Fredricka Paulsdatter of Dovre born about 1768
Dear Sissel,
I realize that Frericka's son's name when he was baptized was listed as "Suigurd". There is not even a listing of any name that is close in the entire 1801 census for Lesja. Therefore, one must assume that his name was listed as Sivert or a similar derivation.
Thank you for listing the marriage of Erick Guttormsen. I also found his listing as still an unmarried man in the 1801 census. Larry Justad

Kildeinformasjon: Oppland fylke, Lesja, Ministerialbok nr. 3 (1777-1819), Kronologisk liste 1801, side 570-571.
Marriage for Eric and Anne number two from the bottom right side.
Census 1801 was in February - look here: Ved reskript av 28. november 1800 vart det utsendt kongeleg befaling om å halda folketeljing i Danmark, Noreg og på Island den 1. februar 1801. : http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/We ... 2&spraak=n

Re: Fredricka Paulsdatter of Dovre born about 1768
I now believe that Frederica Poulsdatter may very well have been the illegitimate daughter of Joda Jorgensdatter of Skredderhaugen. Frederica is first mentioned in the Lesja parish records when she is confirmed in 1784: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 470146.jpg She is listed as living at the same farm as Joda Jorgensdatter. For whatever reason, her baptism is not recorded in Lesja and is not listed anywhere else in Norway as far as I can determine. I therefore assume that she was born in Lesja and somehow her baptism was overlooked. Frederica does appear as a godparent in at least two baptisms, and at each one Joda Jorgensdatter is also a godparent. The both live at the same farm: Andgaard. One in 1790: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 470616.jpg and one in 1801: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 470616.jpg Frederica Poulsdatter was listed as a godparent in 1801, but is not listed in the 1801 census in Lesja or anywhere else in Norway. There is a "Frideric Poulsen" listed right after Joda Jorgensdatter in the 1801 census at the exact same farm: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/we ... =2589#ovre I do not have access to the original records, but could it be that this actually should be Frederica Poulsdatter? Also, Frederica Poulsdatter's only legitimate daughter was named Joda, which certainly would have been following the naming custom: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1 ... 480095.jpg
Also, nieces and nephews of Joda Jorgensdatter served as godparents to each of Frederica Poulsdatter's four children.
Any input or information regarding this family would be greatly appreciated.
