I am trying to read the probate register? for a Søren CORNELIUSSEN, farver fra Toten, year 1837. Entry begins about where the blob of ink is near the bottom of page 326a.

Source information: Oppland county, Toten sorenskriveri, Toten tinglag, Skifteregistreringsprotokoll 7 , 1829-1838, oppb: Statsarkivet i Hamar.
Remarks: Registreringsprotokoll. Dødsfallslister hvert år.

He was married to an Ingeborg MICHELSDR 1807, who went by Ingeborg MICHELSDTR HOFSVANGEN at the time but was later discovered via Probate records in Land 1818 to be Ingeborg MICHELSDR NORDRAACH, the Grand Aunt to Bjørnstjerne BJØRNSON and Richard NORDRAACH.

There are probates for both Mikkel Madson NORDRAACH (in 1805 for his wife and in 1818 upon his death). When his wife died the two girls were still single, but when Mikkel died in 1818 Ingeborg was married to farver Corneliussen in Toten. dau Margit was the widow of a Svenske saddlemager in Oslo.

I am most interested in learning, if there is any reference, to where this Søren CORNELIUSSEN came from? My hunch is he came from Chirstiania. On 1801 I see a Søren CORNELIUSSEN living at Grændse Gaden No 363, Oslo/Christiania as an apprentice to Jens Kristoffer Delphin (I belive that he has a factory that makes paint and vinegar [farvemester og eddikfabrikkør].

Totens Bygdebok Volume 1, 1952, page 418-419: “The first dye house at Damstokken 1) was probably established early 1800. 1807 bought dyer Søren Corneliussen a house at Hofsvangen. He married Ingeborg Michelsen Hofsvangen. He died October 24. 1836, and division of an inheritance was held at Hofsvangen 1837-38

A fellow researcher who found this entry reported:

Attached are the pages of the probate for Soren Corneliussen which I copied from the film at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.  The gothic script is difficult to read on the hard copy. So I have scanned them in as JPEG images and hope you are able to read them.  I am able to read the names of the surviving children on the top of the second page.  Toward the bottom of the second page is "Gjeld" [debts] and listed at 3 and 4 appear to be his sons Johan and David whom he owed money to.  I was told by one of the Norwegian translators that the top of the third page lists what he owned.

It is very difficult to determine where one person's probate ends and the next begins - The records seem to be crowded together on these pages.  The first three pages are from page 326 and pages 4 and 5 are from page 338a as indicated on the probate index card.   You can easily pick out Ingeborg's and Johan's Corneliussen signature in the middle of the 5th page. This I think is the end of the Corneliussen probate record.

This passage has proved a no-go for some already. Any help really appreciated!

Mvh Doug
