Hi
Can anyone help me with the 25 January 1744 probate record of Torbiørn Skaffar, from Marifjøra, Luster, SFJ ? Perhaps a short summary of the top paragraph, with names of relatives that I have missed. Does it say the date he died, his age, etc...?

Is Marie Larsdatter his widow? Are Ramus Torbiørnsen Leindalen and Tora Torbiørnsdatter his children?

His son, Lars Torbiørnsen Høgi, died in 1733, so I am guessing that Ole Larsen age 15 , and ???????, and Lars Larsen age 11, are his grandchildren?

Are any other of the names pertinent? I am not concerned with people he owes money to, or who owes him money.

You've got it right. But those mentioned in the first paragraph, are only those present. When we're told how the inheritance was distributed, there's another son - the oldest one. His name is given as Berent Torbiørnsøn (see the bottom of the third column). The first paragraph doesn't tell that Ole Larsen and Lars Larsen were Torbjørn's grandchildren, but they're later in the probate presented as the sons of the late Lars Høye, Torbjørn's second son. Where you have question marks, the text only says that Ole Larsen was present ("Ole Larsen 15 years old and present").

The probate doesn't tell neither when Torbjørn died nor how old he was.

Does it mention a wife? or other relatives: siblings, other offspring or grandchildren? Farms they are living at, (besides Høgi)? who got Marifjæren?

Surnames were unusual back then. Was he from another country? or is Skaffer a description or occupation? The word is not in my Haugen Norwegian English Dictionary. Geni.com lists Skaffars from Finland.

The wife was Marie Larsdatter. I assume she was still alive, although the children inherit both parents. I don't find anything about other relatives. One Lars Andersen Øvre Joranger (? not sure about the farm name) is appointed as guardian for Ole Larsen, while one Johanes Finsen Høye is guardian for Lars Larsen. A Berent Bachen is mentioned in the probate. He may be the same one as the oldest son.

I can't see anything about what happened to Marifjæren. The probate tells us that Torbjørn's goods and chattels were valued at 24 Riksdaler 6 shilling, others owed him 19 Riksdaler 1 ort 6 shilling, so his combined property was 43 Riksdaler 1 ort 12 shilling. From this were subtracted his debts and other expenses, totaling 16 Riksdaler 3 ort 6 shilling. The remaining 26 Riksdaler 4 ort 6 shilling were what the children inherited.

I don't know anything about this family, so I have no idea neither where Torbjørn nor his name came from.

Laberg's HAFSLO bygdebok, page 473, talks about Lars Torbiørnsen getting Høgi in 1730, then dying in 1733. His widow, Siri Anfinnsdtr., marries Johannes Finnson, who then takes over Høgi.
Siri dies in 1742, which is probably why Johannes is appointed guardian of Lars T.'s son Lars, after Torbiørn dies. There is no mention of the other grandson, Ole Larsen, there.

Siri's probate record is a few pages before Torbiørn Skaffar's probate.

I see Høgi and Marifjæren farms mentioned, as well as Johannes Findsen, Lars Larsen, and Torbiørn Skaffer.
