I am looking for information on Helen Thompson Gaard, born in Norway Nov 25, 1870, probably in Rogaland. She died in 1959 in Lake Preston, South Dakota. She immigrated in 1894.
Sh married Thor Thorson about 1895 in South Dakota. Thor Thorson was born feb 11, 1855in Sandeid, Rogaland, Norway (immigrated 1863) and died in 1929. After Thor's first wife died, he returned to Norway to find a bride.. i believe Helen Thompson's name had a Norwegan form, such as Helene Thommasdatter.

Hi! This was not easy. I think I found the family in 1910 census.State: South Dakota, county: Lincoln, Township: Delaware, district 273.
Family number 14. Thos E. Thorson, b. abt. 1855 , Helen b. abt. 1871 birthplace both Norway. I have not found anything else, but their oldest child? James A. Age 13, b. abt. 1897, birthplace: Illinois.
They had a servant. Surname: VASGAARD, Given name: Christane (Christine perhaps?), female, age 23, b. abt. 1887, Single Birthplace: Norway. Immig: 1909.

Perhaps a sister/relative of Helen.

Helen Thorson died dec 2 1959. Brooking county, paige number 186, certificate number: 314928.

Inger Myklebust, b. Oct 1881 , who lives with Thor Thorson in the 1900 census, traveled from Liverpool March 31, 1900. She came to New York April 8, 1900. She said that she was going to her uncle Thor Thorson. Her last residence location is Stavanger. Is this a track?

I know there is a Myklebust in Sola, Roagaland. I do not know how Inger Myklebust is related to Thor Thorson (or Helen Thompson Gaard) but it can be a clue. Thor Thorson had already been in the US for 18 years when Inger was born, and 37 years when she arrived, but the family must have remained in communication with relatives in Norway. It might be helpful to know who Inger Myklebust's parents are.

I think we've found the right Inger. She was born on Vignes, Karmøy, Rogaland.
The family live in Stavanger in 1900 census. Nr. 63. and C-1900.

The parents were married Aug. 24, 1878 in Avaldsnes. Nr. 23.

The family is mentioned in the Genealogy Forum Karmøy, Visnes Ao-624. Slektsforum Karmøy.

When I read the census for 1900 in the U.S., it appears that Thor Thorsen is an widower when he married Helen? If so, who is his first wife? Where did she come from?

Thor (Thomas) Thorson was first married to Augusta Essington (Aagot Hanson). They were married in the US. She is not from Rogaland, as far as I know. Their Chilcren were:
