Ottar Berg Andreassen born may 17th 1930 in Dverberg, Nordland, Norway left Norway about 1952 and probably jumped the norwegian merchant ship in Melbourne, Australia and he probably died in the Melbourne area about 1997.
Confirming day/year of death and any info about an eventually marriage will be highly appreciated.

You will find three persons with the name Andreassen in the phone directory for New South Wales. One of them might be a descendant of your Ottar. It might be worthwhile to contact them.

Vidar, thank you for the information. I will pass this info over to a nevø of Ottar - named Geir Laupstad - who is going to Melbourne shortly participating in his sons wedding in Melbourne. He is very interested in finding/getting contact with relatives (decendants of his uncle Ottar because we know there was a marriage but have no names).
Info for you - I knew Ottar as a neighbour - was about ten years when he left Norway. I knew his parents very well and also his brothers and sister(Ottar had two brothers and one sister). They are all dead now, but have many decendants here in Andoy in Northern Norway who of course are relatives to decendants of Ottar Berg Andreassenn in Melbourne.

I've been in contact with Geir Laupstad, a relative of Ottar and he mentioned Ottar may have changed his surname from ANDREASSEN to ANDERSON when he "jumped the ship" in Australia.
As far as I know we have the norwegian seaman church only in Sidney - in the Melbourne area we have the sweedish seaman church so it might have been more easier/convienent to have his surname changed, who knows.
I will therefore send a request to the sweedish seaman church in Melbourne and also to the norwegian embassy.
Nevertheless - any info from you out there about Ottar Berg (Andreassen) ANDERSON born May 17th 1930 in Dverberg, Nordland, Norway and probably died in the Melbourne area in 1997 will be higly appreciated.

Just want to inform the forum about the latest information I've received short time ago:

Ottar Berg Andreassen born may 17th 1930 in Norway first came to the Melbourne area - then he went to Sydney. Here he had a son who died 13 yrs old by a brainstroke and the mother of the child died shortly afterwards in a train-accident.
Ottar finally settled down in the Wellington area in a small village/place named MUMBIL where he died in 1997.
The great problems in finding Ottar is mainly/probably caused that he changed his name to be Peter Andersson
