Emanuel FREDRIKSSON & Helena ERICSDOTTER: SWE > NOR &

I am trying to locate the christening records for the children of Emanuel FREDRIKSSON & Helena ERICSDOTTER. Emanuel & Helena were Swedish, but lived in Norway prior to emigrating to New Zealand.

They were dissenters (Wesleyan/Methodist) which is probably why I cannot find them.

The information I have been given re. the children of Emanuel FREDRIKSSON & Helena ERICSDOTTER is as follows:

1) Johanne Elise (Lisa) b.12 Aug 1858 Sweden

2) Carl Fredrik b. 08 Jul 1860 Sarpsborg, Østfold, Norway

6) Johannes b. 03 Jul 1871 Østre Fredrikstad, Østfold, Norway

7) Deborah b. 25 Dec 1874 New Zealand

I'm not convinced the above information is correct as the dates don't quite match the ages in the census. For example, Oline was age 1Y in the 1865 census, which would mean she was born about 1864.

According to the Fredrikstad church records scanned and available at Digitalarkivet no dissenter records appears to be available for the period of interest. However, the methodist church in Fredrikstad might have some records and can be contacted via email [email protected]

The family leaves Norway 1872. Neither Oline nor Samuel are with them. Did they die in Norway?

In this text I found the birth of Erik born Mar 25, 1863 in Glemmen and the birth of Oline Oct 24, 1865.



Erik from line 7 left page and Oline is last entry before 1866 on the right page:

Thank you so much for all these links!

Oline and Samuel travelled with Emanuel's neice, Amalia, and her husband, Julius. Immigrants weren't allowed more than 4 children, so they travelled as the (pretend) children Of Julius and Amalia.

Oline was my Gt grandmother.
