Hei!
Prøver å finne litt mer om min bestefar og familien hans. De er ganske ukjente ettersom han døde da jeg fortsatt var en smårolling Det jeg vet er at han ble født i Brooklyn, Kings i New York 7 april 1911. Foreldrene heter Mimmi Margaretha Eriksen og Samuel Sylvester Josef Josefsen. Jeg fant ham greit på familysearch.org, men vet at det er mer informasjon å hente på http://www.ancestry.com. Imidlertid er jeg ikke medlem der, og håper å få litt hjelp her? Han var også med i den amerikanske hæren som en slags dekkgutt eller noe tror jeg. Usikker her, han rømte fra krigen i Asia etter kort tid tror jeg for det ble visst for brutalt for ham. Så jeg er usikker på om han står på noen militærliste. Tror han har en søster, uansett alt informasjon hadde vært flott! Evt. spesielt litt mer info om faren hvis det er mulig ettersom jeg har litt bakgrunnsinfo om moren, men ingenting om faren.

Patty: I do not know very much, only the one I told you in first post. When they immigrated from Norway, from where and so on. So that is why I wanted some help about ancestry.com in the opinion of I maybe could get some track to look for more information about his family.

Margit: I think it is maybe him, but do it say that he went to New York and later to Cuba, and then back to NY again? Because the arrival date of 1930. Bjarne was born 1911.. That is something I have to check.

What part of Norway were these people from? Where is your Samuel Josefsen in the 1900 Norwegian census? When exactly was he born? Where? Parents names? Did he have brothers or sisters that came to America? If so, where did they live??

They are from Vestfold. I found Samuel here. Born in Borre 1879. The mothers name is Helga Josefsen, I don't know the fathers name. I don't know if brothers and/or sister did go to America.

I have looked for Samuel in the curchbooks, but didn't find him. But I think I did find his sister, Anna. I don't manage to read the text. So I need more time to go trough the stuffs. I will come back with more later

I looked at the Manifest for the 1920 record of Samuel Josefsen at Ellis Island...
It says his nearest realative is his wife Mimi Josefsen and she lives at 16 "Fageliveien"? in Grefsen, Norway (as of March 1920 )...
so it appears the family may not be in our 1920 US census...right?

Samuel is a ship engineer...and his place of birth is Horten...

So I suppose Bjarne is living in Norway with his mother at this time (1920)...

Whoah! I'm very grateful for your help! You gave me a great "starting position" with the parents marriage date. Now I have manged to find a lot of more information about his parents and etc. I did find Samuel grandfather. It looked like that all of them worked the boats, but I found that Samuel's grandfather was carpenter, smile:) Again, I'm grateful for all the help I got!

Patty: I have understood that the father did travel a lot, so I think that the family went to USA and back a lot of times. Bjarne did have the U.S. passport and Norwegian passport if I have understood that right. So it is natural that he is not in your US census of 1920's, because it is difficult to be everywhere to every time? However, very thank you for your help and "advices"

Hi everyone!

I did manage to find out that Bjarne got married with Liv in Newark, New Jersey 3rd October 1942. Liv did have one child, who was not Bjarne's. I think she maybe worked in the military? Bjarne went back to Norway in Oct 1948 with the boat Stavangerfjord. They was divorced by judgement in 1966.

If someone could help me to find more about Liv and her children, it would be great! Where is Liv born, what the name to the child is etc. Send me PM!
