Seeking descendants of Bertha McQueen (1886-1962), New York.

Bertha McQueen (Anne Bergitte Paulsdatter Hoff), born 5 April 1886 in Ørland, died July 1, 1962 in New York. She emigrated in August 1903 to the United States. She married in New York with Thomas McQueen, born about 1866/1868 in Scotland, probably died before 1940, because Bertha is a widow in the 1940 census. They lived in Queens county, New York, in 1920.

Bertha and Thomas had a daughter, Dagmar Marie McQueen, born 1913. She was living in New York City in 1940 with her mother and grandmother. Bertha's last name is spelled wrong in the 1940 census - MACqueen. Dagmar married 23 November 1935 in New York with Arthur J. Nicol.

Dagmar and Arthur Nicol had a daughter Margie Nicol, born 1939 in New York.

Does anyone have any information about Dagmar and Arthur Nicol, and their daughter Margie?

I also seek further information about Bertha's brother Fredrik Birger Hoff, born 6 August 1889 who emigrated and settled in New York in October 1906. He was still living in New York when he in 1942 issued World War Draft Registration Cards, and he was then unmarried.

In the 1940 New York(Manhattan), New York census Bertha MACqueen (misspelling of Mcqueen) is head of household.
Living with her are her daughter, Dagmar Nicol (b. 1913) and her granddaughter,
Margie, age 1.

Great Gunhild-Juliane!!! That has to be Arthur who died in Pasco county, FL but buried in Seminole, Pinellas County, Fl (those 2 counties are next to each other)

I think I found Arthur Nicol's parents
1920 New York, New York
Alexander Nicol age 55, b. in Scotland..immigrated 1884...he is a carpenter
wife Catherine age 54 (census says b. in NY)
they have 5 kids..the youngest is an "Arthur" age 10...

In 1930 Alexander Nicol (still in New york/Manhattan) NY ..says his age is 61 (B. in Scotland)
Wife Catherine age 60 (here is says she is b. in Scotland), son Arthur age 20...

I see the ages for the parents are "off" in these 2 census records...that happens!

John C. Nicol, age 80, of Iron Station, was a son of the late Cargill Nicol and Nora Brinckman Nicol. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathrine Goode.
John was employed in the Mortgage Banking Industry most of his working life and retired from Barclays American Mortgage in 1994 where he served as Director and Vice-President of Loan Administration for many years. He received the John Laton Award in 1988 in recognition of contributions to Mortgage Servicing at the local, state, and national levels. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. John was a charter member and past Master of Keystone Lodge #726. He received the Grand Masters Award in 1971 and the Laudamus Award in 1975. He received his 50 years as a Certified Lecturer becoming the 9th Mason in N.C. to receive that distinction. John loved golf and was a long time member of Westport Golf course and played regularly until being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Interment in Faith Baptist Church Cemetery, Iron Station.
Burke Mortuary in Maiden is serving the Nicol family.

Etter det som nå er fremkommet er jeg fristet til å konkludere med at den Arthur J. Nicol som 23. november 1935 i New York gifter seg med Dagmar McQueen, er identisk med Arthur J. Nicol, født 28. mai 1909, død 21. april 1977 i Pinellas, Florida.

Ut fra opplysningene i U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Record, 1938-1946, hvor det under Material Status er skrevet "Separated, with dependents", er jeg fristet til og konkludere med at Dagmar og Arthur ble skilt omkring 1942.

Vil Tro at datteren Margie kalte seg Nicol frem til hun muligens ble gift.

I just wonder why we can't find her at findagrave...

Jan...you mentioned a Bertha Mcqueen working in Rochester, NY (1952 I think?)....Rochester is quite a distance from New York City....perhaps that is another "Bertha"?

In the 1920 Queens, NY census, it says Thomas McQueen immigrated from Scotland in 1875.
I have looked all over for him in earlier census years...

Can anyone find Thomas earlier than the 1920census?

I would also think that Dagmar, would bury her mother (Bertha) next to her father, Thomas.
That info would be VERY helpful...

It says that her Social security number was issued (started) in New York..and she was born
April 5,1886 but WHERE she died in July 1962 is not written.(that space is blank)

Bertha may not have died in New York.
Do you all agree?

I det orginale dokumentet (Pettion for naturalization) datert 23. mars 1937 fremgår det at Bergitte og Thomsas McQueen, født 17. juli 1865 i Morningside, Scotland, død 12. februar 1933 i NY, giftet seg 18. februar 1912 i Brooklyn, NY.

I følge en privat melding (PM) ble datteren Dagmar McQueen og Arthur Nicol skilt etter kort tid. Arthur Nicol giftet seg på ny og var senere bosatt i New Jersey og Florida.
