Hans var gift med Lava Emilie Tønnesen født 4. januar 1887 i Skaare, i Haugesund. Hun emigrerte 2. september 1903, etter det jeg kan se. I et skjøte fra 1941, er det brukt Severtsen som etternavn, men det kan se ut for at navnet også er skrevet som Seversen i andre sammenhenger. Antar at Hans i utgangspunktet het Hans Sivertsen og at han var fra Norge. Muligens var han født i 1884.
