Harald Nordlie til USA i 1901?

En bror av min oldefar het Harald Nordlie. Han var født i Fet i 1881:

og konfirmert i Årnes i 1895:

I 1900 jobbet han som telegrafist ved jernbanen i Kongsvinger, selv om familien bodde på Mysen:

I følge famlietradisjonen dro han til Amerika, og forsvant der, og i følge bygdeboken for Fet emigrerte han i 1901. Jeg kan ikke finne ham som utflyttet hverken fra Årnes, Kongsvinger eller Mysen, og jeg finner ham heller ikke i noen emigrantlister hos digitalarkivet eller i folketellinger for USA. Kan han ha arbeidet seg over som telegrafist, så han står i mannskapslister i steden? Hvor finner jeg i tilfelle dem? Det høres ut som om jernbanekalenderne kan inneholde informasjon, men hvordan får jeg lånt dem for f.eks. 1901?

Veldig moro hvis jeg klarer å finne ut mer om ham.

I did find one Harold Nordlie (indexed as "Nordlee") in the 1910 Hennepin County, MN census. He is age 32...immigrated 1903 (I think...a bit hard to read). He is not married.
I did not find him again in the 1920 census.

Hei igjen!
I found this Harold Nordley, that Leif Erik found.
In the 1910 census he is age 28, not married and he is an electrician, living in Boston, Mass. Immigration year is hard to read...but it looks like 1901.
In 1920 he is married to Matilda and they have a son, Harold B...I think he is 5 months old (also hard to read).

OK...so that was the right Harold! Did you find the record of his son, Harold B. at SSDI?
He was born July 1917 and died Nov. 2001 in Winchester, Mass. So I must have read young Harold's age wrong in the 1920 census...it WAS hard to read. He must have been about 2 years+ in that census.

Hello again! I am not 100% sure about the Harold in the US census, there seems to be at least one candidate in Massachusets and one in Minnesota, I was actually referring to the emigration record. Though it does seem probable that he married a girl from Akershus, I have to spend a bit more time on it, and there is still 4 days left before my vacation

I am not good with Norwegian geography...so the Harold in Mass., was born in Christiania according to the draft card....is that the place where the "real" Harold was born?...or perhaps the fellow in MN is a better candidate??

Good morning! Harald Nordlie was born in Fet in Akershus, it is not far from Christiania (Oslo), but it is not the same place. Also, Harald Nordlie was born in 1881, so a specific date in 1882 also indicates that the Mass-candidate is not the right one.

Hello!

I found Harold Nordley, the electrician born in Chrisitania in 1882 in the 1900 Census:

So, now I know 100% sure that this is not my great grandfather's brother, but I may still try to find more about Harold in Hennepin, and look for immigrants that departed from Hull in 1901 (Montebello went Christiania - Christiansand - Hull)
