Helvig Catharina HAGEMAND b abt 1752 (and many variants)

Dear group,

I am stumped. Been rolling through parish registers from many, many registers including Akershus Slottsmenighet in Garnisonsmenigheten, Oslo Domkirke, Ås, Botne, Moss, and Kristiansand Domkirke in Vest-Agder in an attempt to find any information about my Helvig Catharina HAGEMAND b abt 1752 so thought I would seek out some help. I have a timeline available here. Even see a reference to Nannestad in these entries and have tried there to no avail. Where might she come from? here is the timeline: Images are big enough to discern. To navigate you must scroll to bottom of each page to hit the arrows right or left.

HAGEMAND timeline to date

I would really appreciate some wisdom as to what you all think her surname should be. HEGEMAND? HAGEMAND? HÆGEMAND? HEGERMANN? and oh so many variants.

Most agree, the original WEGGERMAN was an erroneous entry at this point. Too many HAGEMAN, HÆGEMAND, HEGERMANN, HEGGERMANN entries downstream to support WEGGERMAN.

I have been told that HEGERMAN(D) with the 'D' is a common mis-spelling. Also been told the 'Æ' really leans towards the 'E' in translation as opposed to 'A'. I have also been told 'MANN', 'MAN', and 'MAND' are essentially the same thing.

Thanks so much for any help in advance,

Doug TUCK-Walker

Hagemann was a well known military family. It is an article in Norsk Slektshistorisk Tidsskrift, Hjorth, Niels Christian. "Slekten Hagemanns avstamning fra Magister Christen Nielsen Bundtz i Christiania." NST 27 (1979): 1-43. about its origins. There is no mention of Helvig/Hedevig. The article give records of events pre 1701.

It is a reference in the article to a book: Axel Hagemann: Militærfamilien Hagemann, Kristiania 1901 (The military family of Hagemann)

In Ovenstad: Norsk militærbiografi, vol. 1, there are two Hagemann-officers that could have been the father of Hedvig/Helvig.

1) Baltzer Christian Hagemann, b. 1709, died 1777 in Oslo. He was Lieutenant Colonel. Married in Aker 29/12 1740 with Anne Marie Smith 1725-1759. She died in Drøbak. 13 children, and they left 8 living children. In 1751 he became chief of N. Folloske kompani. He was awarded captains rank in 1744, and became major in 1754.

2) Caspar Friedrich Hagemann, (brother of no. 1) b. 1712 in Kristiania, died 1775 in Botne, near Holmestrand. He was first an officer, and eventually became Overbirkedommer i grevskapet Jarlsberg (Chief Justice) in 1746 and had the office until 1768. Married 1737 with Anna Maria Grøn 1717-1787. 12 children.

If she was illegitimate, there are of course several other possibilities.

Let's hope that someone with access to a library in Oslo, could check the above-mentioned book Militærfamilien Hagemann, and see whether Hedvig/Helvig is mentioned there. That could, hopefully, narrow your search.
:) Tore

I have looked in "Militærfamilien Hagemann" to day. Could not find Hedvig there.

There were also some officers of the Hagemann family in Fredrikstad, Østfold. Maybe you can find something there.
