Family of Hans Jakob Engebretsen or Anne Hansdatter

I have registered as a guest member of the Genealogical Society of Norway but am having difficulties with some of the pages in Norwegian.

I am trying to find any members of my extended family who might still be living in Norway.

My grandfather Lars Jone Hansen (b.1875 in Lahelle, Sandefjord) left Norway in about 1885-1890 on a whaling ship & never returned there.

His father was Hans Jakob Engebretsen (b.1835 Sweden) who married Maren Andrea Ivarsdatter (b.1844 or 1848? in Hedrum / Larvik, Sandefjord) in 1870 in the Sandar Church, Lahelle, Sandefjord. They had two children -- Lars (above) & a daughter Anne Hansdatter. There might be some descendants of Anne's still in Norway.

The parents of Maren Andrea Ivarsdatter & her sister Anne Ivarsdatter were Ivar Amundson (b1815 in Sondre Odberg, Lahelle) and Berte (Berthe?) Marie Poulsdatter (b.? in Gjone, Hedrum).

Would you please advise me what is my best course of action ?

Many years ago, I received some assistance from the Family History Group at Sandefjord. Do you have a current name & address for the president (or contact person) with this group ?

I've done some investigations and found that your information is a little bit inaccurate:

Hans Jacob Engebretsen was born in Brastad parish in Bohus län, Sweden. His year of birth can't be established at the moment. The 1875-census says 1839, but he is also said to be born 1842, and the marriage record says that he was 35 years old in 1870. His father's name was Engebret Hansen. Hans Jacob probably came from Swedem to Norway sometime between 1865 and 1870.

Married August 15th 1870 in Sandar parish to Maren Andrea Iversdatter. The couple first lived at Sandbekk, Tjøme parish, but they moved to i Lahelle, Sandar parish before 1872. Hans Jacob is described as a worker 1870-1872 and as a sailor in 1875. I've found three children, but I haven't searched for children born after 1875:

a) Iver Hansen, born September 23rd 1870 at Sandbekk, Tjøme parish. Still alive May 2nd 1886 when he was candidate for confirmation in Sandar parish, then living at Skjælberg, Sandar parish.

b) Anne Hansdatter, born August 10th 1872 at Lahelle, Sandar parish. I haven't found her as a candidate for confirmation in Sandar parish at the expected time.

c) Lars Hansen, born February 4th 1875 at Lahelle, Sandar parish. I haven't found him as a candidate for confirmation in Sandar parish at the expected time.

Maren Andrea Iversdatter was born June 15th 1844 at Odberg, Hvarnes subparish, Hedrum parish. The 1865-census shows her as a maid at Øvre Hasle, Sandar parish. Her parents were:

Iver Anundsen, born about 1815, probably at Odberg, Hvarnes subparish, Hedrum parish. Married August 23rd 1844 in Hedrum parish to Berte Paulsdatter, born June 21st 1825 at Rønningen, Gjone Mellom, Kvelde subparish, Hedrum parish. The marriage record says that she was named Berte Marie, but all other records, including the baptism record, says only Berte. The couple lived in 1844 at Odberg, Hvarnes subparish, Hedrum parish, in 1851 at Rønningen, Gjone Mellom, Kvelde subparish, Hedrum parish, and in 1863 at Hem, Sandar parish. Iver was a cotter or crofter. However, in 1865 they had moved to Vestad, Sandar parish, and Iver there worked as a ship's carpenter. In 1875 they had moved to Lahelle, Sandar parish, Iver still working as a ship's carpenter. I've found the following children, but the list may not be complete:

a) Maren Andrea Iversdatter, see above.

b) Johan Anton Iversen, born April 27th 1851 at Rønningen, Gjone Mellom, Kvelde subparish, Hedrum parish. He was staying with his parents still in 1875, working as a sailor.

c) Inger Petrea Iversdatter, born January 2nd 1863 at Hem, Sandar parish. She was staying with her parents in 1875.

Finally: Iver Anundsen's father was Anund Jonsen. Berte Paulsdatter's parents were Paul Larsen and Ingeborg Sørensdatter.
