I understand that the Merovingian king Clovis I the Great converted to Christianity, probably before the year 500.
Forgetting Roman Emperors, was he the first Christian king in history? Where there any earlier ones, for example in Spain?

As for the Germanic nations:

The traditional date for the Frankish king Clovis' conversion is
496. The Visigoths became Arian Christians in the late fourth
century, and at various times in the fifth century the Ostrogothic,
Gepid, Suevic, Vandalic, and Burgundian kingdoms converted
to Arianism. The Rugi, Heruli, Alans, Bavarians, Thuringians,
and Lombards were likewise Arian Christians by the middle of
the following century.

Iberia was invaded by Romans, later vanquished by Alans, Vandalic and
Suevics that prevailed but were later vanquished by Visigothics, later
vanquished by Muslims. Suevic and Visigothics were arians. The first
suevic king to convert to roman christianism was Requiário in 448; the
first visigothic was Recaredo I in 589.

Requiário could well be the first christian king in Europe.
