Confessor.
Edward the Confessor is a first cousin of William the Conqueror's father
William the Conqueror's wife was a 4th cousin twice removed (and perhaps
even closer) of Edward the Confessor
I have Matilda of Flanders as a 7th cousin once removed of Eadgyth of Wessex
I have been told that novelists and historians not always are good
genealogists.

Subject: William The Conqueror & Edward The Confessor's Wife?
I'm reading Edward Rutherfurd's historical novel *London*. At one point,
he mentions in passing, that William The Conqueror married into the family
of Edward The Confessors wife. I've never heard this before, and I cannot
find any likely connection between
Edith Godwinesdatter and Matilda of Flanders, unless, possibly, I have the
wrong wife of Baldwin V as mother of Matilda.
Can anyone elucidate? Thank you.
