Hello, I am researching my husband's ancestors from Norway.
The name seems to have been spelled several different ways.
OHLGREN, OHLGREEN,OLGREEN,OLGREN
So far I have
LORENTZ ANDREAS OLGREEN B. 1814 Fredrikshald maried to CAROLINE OLSDATTER
b.1823 in Aremark
Sons MAGNUS (1838)(married to Annette); SEVERIN (1840); GUNERIUS (1845)
married to KAROLINE EMILIE ANDERSEN (1842); OLE MARTIN (1850); LUDVIG CONRAD
(1858); and daughter ALMA OTILLIE (1860);
Gunerius is my husband's gg grandfather; his son was THORMOD OHLGREN who
emigrated to Canada and married OLGA PEDERSEN in Port Arthur Ontario in
1908.
I cannot seem to get any further back than LORENTZ ANDREAS. Where did they
come from? They do not appear on the 1801.
There is another group of Ohlgrens on the census site, some of whom
emigrated to Moose Lake Minnesota in the early 1900's, but so far I cannot
establish a family link with them. There are only 27 Ohlgrens on the 1900
census - one would think they were possibly all related?
Where would the name have originated? Is it more of a Swedish name? Or is
there a place in Norway they were perhaps named after?

an army base in Fredrikshald in 1814. Perhaps Lorentz Olgren was a
military? I should add that an Olgren search on the net shows up with an
artillerist with this name who died in Gothenburg 1809. There is some
information of him in "Släktforskarnas årsbok 2002" published by

Re: OHLGREN
Hi,
Im also an Ohlgren related person.
My mother had Ohlgren as her lastname before she got married. She was born In Halden.
As a matter of fact, in my register i have a person named Lorentz Andreas Ohlgren, born 1814. According to my records, his mother was called Maria Andersdatter and was married to Martin Andreassen Ohlgren, born sometime bet. 1784-1785 and died 06.07.1846. This was Martin's first marriage.I have no details about Maria.
According to my register, Lorentz Andreas was the son of my grand grand grand grand father from his 1st marriage.
In his second marriage with Dorothea Jørgensdatter, they got amongst 7 children, my grand grand grand father Johan Martin Ohlgren born 19.3.1834.
I do have some information about the Ohlgren family that have collected over the years. Unfortenately most of it is just on paper.
A few years ago i was in contact with "Haldens Historiske samlinger" (The historical collections of Halden) who have a file of info related to the ohlgrens. A famous local historical person from Halden had a collection of genealogy info regarding this familly which he donated to the museum.
When contacting the museum they were very helpful and sent me a lot of copies of interesting info.
Their address is:

Re: OHLGREN
Had a closer look in my files and found a letter from "Haldens Historiske samlinger (HHS)" with regards to Ohlgren.
A translated and shortened quote from the letter;
"A local historcal person Forstrøm mentions in his notes that Martin was serving with Wolhardt a tanner ("Garver") as a tanner trainee in Halden. He took the name Ohlgren. he was married to two persons
1 - Marie Andersen (Swedish)
2 - Dorothea Jørgensdatter
Martin was son of Andreas Ulriksen Olseng who lived at Orød at Idd. he again was son of Ulrik Olseng."
The above info was according to HHS, not confirmed by any source evidence from Forstrøm,
I have not been able to or had time to investigate further on these persons.
Please let me know if you would like copies of what i've got from the museum with regards to Ohlgren.
Since i've not had time to digitalize it, i'll have to pass on paper copies.

Re: OHLGREN
I think this is Andreas's christening:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANDREAS ULRIKSEN
Male
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 20 FEB 1752 Skjeberg, Ostfold, Norway
Death:
Burial:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parents:
Father: ULRICH OLSENG
Can this be the Andreas Ulriksen in 1801?
