My family,Sæther, were not members of the National Church of Norway. How do
I locate a birth record for them?
Kasper Anton Sæther was born in 1864 in Urskoug (according to the 1900
census). It also says that he left the church. Since he would not be found in
"Parish records", where do I look for his birth record? I do not know the name
of his parents or siblings.
I have not found a baptism or confirmation for his sons Karl (1907) or Olav
(1898) born in Aurskaug (near Paulus), but did find a record for daughter
Sigrid(1904) in 1919 in Paulus.
Both sons were married in Paulua. Did they have to be baptized to be
married in the church?
Any suggestions for researching a non-church family is appreciated.
Thank you,
Smsaether

Re: Family Not Members of the National Chruch
Were your family members of another church than the Church of Norway? In
that case the relevant church would have the records if they are not in
the Norwegian National Archives' different branches.
If they are born in Norway they should be found in the Birth records of
the local parish since the Church of Norway had records of births and of
baptisms, including births, but not baptisms, of in principle anyone
within the boundaries of the parish in question. Unwed Norwegian mothers
were usually registered in their local parish.
