A couple of year ago, I discovered that MS had written a sample database
for genealogy based on Access.
Then it disappeared from view, only to pop up again recently. To get a
copy, go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/default.aspx, and about
mid-page you will find a link. This will download a .cab file, which,
when you double click on it, will reveal a database named 01103113.mdb
To tell the truth, no one seems to have done anything to this in the
intervening years. As an exmple: to import a particular .ged file into
Legacy or any other Access-based program takes a few seconds than 1
minute on my setup. The MS Access import took over 7 minutes, and even
then didn't get it 100% right.
But there are some ideas in there - have a look at TreeView, which
produces a "tree" that looks similar to the directory of your hard
drive, but with ancestors instead of files. Quite neat.

I mentioned the problems the template has to Microsoft. Next day, it was
gone from their pages.
