Legacy question on marking individuals
I have a question about something I'd like to do in Legacy; I was
hoping someone here might know a way to do it.
I have been transcribing a good deal of information, that I've found
on places like Gencircles, that may or may not be accurate. I
incorporate this information into my tree, and then go through each
individual and connection and try to find independent sources to
confirm what I've got. What I'd like to do is find a way to mark the
people that I've done this for, so that as I scan the tree I can
quickly spot the people for whom I feel the research is complete.
Currently what I'm doing is making a note in the Research Notes tab
that gives my estimate of how likely the connection to the parents is.
I do this last, after having found as many other records as I easily
can. The trouble is that when I pick up the work after a month's
break (as I'm now doing) I have forgotten where in the tree I had
reached, so I'm having to poke through the research notes for each
individual to see if I've worked on them yet.
Ideally I'd like something like colour coding: green meaning they're
up to date; red meaning I've got no primary records for them, only
third party information; yellow meaning I have some primary data but
it is incomplete; and grey meaning I have not gone back through and
evaluated this person yet.
Is there another way to achieve what I am looking for?
Thanks
Mike

the NAME LIST button at the top of the main window. You should see a list
of all the people in your current file. To the right of the NAME column
is the SEX column and to the right that are columns labeled 1, 2 and 3
(if you are still using the default setup). These are tags to be used as
you see fit. Double click in the box in the column under 1 next to the
person you want to tag. An X should appear there. This person is now
tagged and can be located later with the search functions. The search
function can create a list of people who have been tagged.
At the bottom of this window is an OPTIONS button. Click on it and you
should see an ADVANCED TAGGING option. If you click on it you will see a
window that will allow you to add a description for each type of tag.
I don't think color coding is available (yet).
Look at the help file under TAGGING and the associated searching.

Reunion has another option which might be even more suited to your task

at the end of the line. These are just the preset included flags. You
can create your own with any name you choose and search for them.

Re: Legacy question on marking individuals
Hi Ron, Donna and All
If you attach a source to any information it gives you the chance to put a
surety level against the info ....
To do this ... put your cursor in the box where the info resides then click
on the "stack of books" icon adjacent the surname box, make sure you have
the right event highlighted, then click on "cite a master source", choose
the source from the list, then click on select, another box appears which
allows you to put a surety level and other details against that source for
THAT record.

Bill

Yes, but that marks SOURCES, not LINES. There is a huge difference.
The suggestion I made allows you to mark lines without

The real need, however, is to indicate this marking of lines on
displayed charts and reports.
By "line" I mean an ancestral line, that is, the connection
between a child and their parents.

Thanks to everyone who responded. Tags does look like what I need; I
will be using that, and I'll see how it goes. I'm also going to
subscribe to the Legacy UG list and ask about the lines there -- I agree
with Doug that it would be great to have a way to colour the lines.
Ron, with regard to the marks in Reunion, it seems from what I
understand of Legacy tags so far that the tags serve the same purpose as
the marks to in Reunion.
Thanks to all.

You can use any one of 9 tags to mark.

Re: Legacy question on marking individuals
Having never used Reunion I dont know but what you describe as a mark is
extremely similar to tags in Legacy - they can be added removed, named,
changed, used for including and excluding, making lists etc
There are 9 available, you can choose to show 3 of the 9 on the data display
screen, they have an option to be on or off and you can choose what colour
they are. They can be added in all sorts of ways and can be removed the
same way.
