sending my file

I am trying to send my family tree file to a member of my family - she
cannot open it as it is a FTW file and she does not have a program on
her computer. How do I convert the file to another format? Thanks.

Not sure you can convert the entire tree to another format. What
you can do: Go to the Family Page of the oldest Davidson you have.
While in the Family Page, click on the "Genealogy Report" icon at the
top of the screen, (looks like a typed page), and this will generate a
file of that person and descendants. If the report is not long enough,
click on "Contents" and select # of Generations, and change this to get
enough generations to show as many as you want. Then simply Save this
file to DeskTop. Now, email your relative and attach this file. It will
open in whatever wordprocessor software they are using, and they will
read exactly what you saw on screen.

Look in the help file for information on Export. There should be
information on exporting in GEDCOM format which can be read by most
other genealogy programs. If not there should be a text or csv export
option.

In addition to the replies you have already had, there is another
option which I would suggest.

Your correspond could download GENViewer from
http://www.mudcreek.ca/
which would enable her to directly view your FTW file. There is a
Lite version of GENViewer which is free and which should do the
job admirably.

No connection to the GENViewer people - I speak as a satisfied
customer only. I have GENViewer 1.19 and it's a terrific program.

You could export it to Gedcom, and use Personal Ancestral File from
http://familysearch.org - it is free and relatively easy to use.

Hi David,

Create a free web site at http://treefic.com. Save your tree from FTW
as a GEDCOM file and load this into your TREEFIC site. Your family
can then view the family tree online just using a web browser.
