Interesting program and very very fast. Good for a quick view & lookup.
The default column widths in the various screens could be better done,
though, to use the full window width. It's also not necessary to use ~14
character widths for columns like sex, source#, family# etc.

For the record, a desktop icon was not created during installation on
this Win98 machine. It was necesssary to create a shortcut to run.jar,
drag it to the desktop, and give it the GenJ icon.

Ditto for an XP machine re the icon.

The Edit View does not permit adding or editing sources. Using one
program I create a report of events with missing sources; using
another program I add the missing sources. It would be much faster to
do that in GenealogyJ than my present method.

It is easier to edit sentence structure, spelling and missing events.

It has since been clarified that there wasn't supposed to be a desktop icon
created. The word "shortcut" referred to the
Start-Programs-GenealogyJ-GenealogyJ2.3 shortcut. That shortcut is a little
different than the one I posted and, although it doesn't seem to make any
difference, it might be best to copy & paste that one to the desktop just to
keep things kosher. It also gives the icon automatically.

I see that it preserves the column heading width after I set them up.

It's pretty neat and I'm sure that the author is watching and taking any
critique and suggestions seriously.

I think you must have meant DOES permit? I just added a Source in the
Individual Edit view. In fact, I included a .GIF Multimedia with it and it
renders it just fine. It survived a Save, Close, and restart. The Save was
blinding fast.

Make no mistake. This is a complete & fully-featured genealogy program, not
just a gedcom viewing toy.

It is easier to edit sentence structure, spelling and missing events.

I especially like the fact that all screens have smooth-scrolling, i.e. the
text moves with the scrollbar and doesn't wait until you release the mouse
button like some of the expensive software does.

Looking at the table view one should be able to see events and sources
(or lack of source). One could proceed down the lines and add or edit
sources as desired.

I think one problem is that I have not really learned how to navigate
- that will take longer than 3 minutes I think!

I agree that the columns remain expanded when altered.

Some of this may be configurable?

Likewise and it's diverting from my current project which is scanning &
processing the 320 photos in one of the albums that belonged to my
grandparents. It includes an HTML browser interface with annotations for the
photos & clickable links for viewing all the photos. It all goes on CD and I
will be mailing out copies to several cousins & the one living uncle. I hope
to get a lot of feedback so that I can better identify people, places, &
timeframe for the annotations.

I agree that the columns remain expanded when altered.

On a gedcom by gedcom basis, but not globally unless I haven't found that yet
