Append-Merge Problems With Family Tree Maker 2005 Collector'

We just bougt FTW 2005 Collectors Edition recently. We've been trying to
Append or Merge old FTW files and old and new GEDs into our new FTW05
database. We have only seen the Append/Merge button a couple of times in
many tries. It is usually grayed-out! I have searched all through the
preferences to see if something is set wrong, but can find no settings that
may affect Append/Merge. I have read the docs and help files, but when I
try EXACTLY what they say to do, the button is still grayed out. I have
also read most of the messages on their message base about
appending/merging, and their online help files, and found no solution. I
could NOT see anywhere online to find patches for FTW!

Does anyone know of any bugs with FTW in regards to Append/Merge, and if
there is a patch and where they might be located? Or could I have a
preference setting wrong?

Intel P-4 - 2.8G
I-Gig Ram
64-Meg Graphics

try and compact your files separately first to clean them up
and back up in a fresh place to save overwriting the old

then use the error checking procedures in the on line help files

never had that problem
just been merging and copy pasting merrily all evening

going to get FTM 2006 in a couple of days

update for as little as $19 on a mailing list
