Email help please
Hi and happy New Year,
I need some advice please.
1. How can you tell what email program a person is using?
I have copied the heading and can't see anything to identify the
program.
She says she doesn't know what program she is using. (My cousin is a
novice using email and is having trouble copying me on some of her emails)
2. What is the best Encoding for them to use and how important is the
selection?
Western Europe (ISO)
Western Europe (Windows)
Currently using Unicode (UTF-7)
Her operating system is Windows XP - which indicates to me she would be
using OE.
Please bear in mind that I am an apprentice senior and only trying to help
an even older cousin.
Thanks.

Hello Tom,
Thanks for your reply - I am happy to receive answers via the newsgroup.
I forgot to say that I use OE exclusively for newsgroups and Outlook for all

When I go into message options on the email from my cousin and have a look

If you go to <http://adelphia.net/index.php> you'll see a [Check Email]

Hi Charani,
Thanks for your post. I will also send your email to my cousin and let her

I will only be able to help her with OE and Outlook but I am sure there will

Rather that try to look though the header information, why not simply
ask her how she sends email? In helping others in the past, I find it
much easier to determine what program they are using by asking them how
they do it. Most people do not know what they are using, but do know
how they do it.
There are two major categories of email packages. One uses the
Internet only and the other uses what is called an Email Client. Don't
even ask her which one she is using. Ask what she clicks on to begin
to get into her email. It may be a blue "e" or a orange and blue
circle, or it may be a green "N". That will tell you they are using an
internet only package and using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or
Navigator respectively.
If that is the method, then ask what the address line shows when she
goes to sign into here email. It may be Yahoo, Adelphia, Google, etc.
If she clicks on another program to get into their email, ask her if
there is a Help menu item on the right of her menus. If so, select it
and select the About ... menu selection under Help and it should tell
you what program she is using.

Western Europe (ISO)
Western Europe (Windows)
Currently using Unicode (UTF-7)
Her operating system is Windows XP - which indicates to me she would be

Thanks for your post. I will also send your email to my cousin and let her
and her son-in-law decide what is best for her.
I will only be able to help her with OE and Outlook but I am sure there will
be a group she could join for help.
Hope your cousin manages to get things sorted out. It's easy when you

Re: Email help please
Thanks Charani,
So do I, I have missed copies of emails she has sent to others and her
emails did not go into the sent folder either. Very frustrating.

Re: Email help please
And this has what to do with genealogy?
Hi and happy New Year,
I need some advice please.
1. How can you tell what email program a person is using?
I have copied the heading and can't see anything to identify the
program.
She says she doesn't know what program she is using. (My cousin is a
novice using email and is having trouble copying me on some of her emails)

selection?

Re: Email help please
Sorry Kraut,
I just forgot to mention that all the emails from my cousin were about our
family history and I thought that some kind person on this group would be
able to help me -they did and that's the end of my conversation with you.
