Posting a gedcom on a personal website?

Legg inn av Geoff Pearson » 25. januar 2006 kl. 21.36

I uploaded a gedcom to my website for a friend to download. When I try to
download it, it opens in IE6 as a text file. How do I upload it so that it
downloads as a complete file - and doesn't open? Zip it up? (I tried that
and it works - but is there a better way?)

It is a text file.

That's probably the best way. If you just upload it (unzipped), and it
opens in the browser, the viewer can do a File > Save in the browser, and
save it to his/her computer.

Right hand click on the link and select "save link as"

Possibly because the file associations of the computer you are using are set
to open up .ged files as a text file in IE6

Go to My Documents, Tools, Folder Options, File Types and scroll down the
list of extensions until you find .GED then remove any associations.

Then when you click on that sort of file, on that computer, it will ask you
if you want to save or open

Click on save

oops attached the answer to the wrong person

The best option is to zip it and put it there for downloading, however if
the other person doesnt know how to handle zip files it may not be an option
