Hi "YALL", I'm intrested in setting up a genealogy web site to display &
share my genealogy files. Some might ask "WHY"? I've been compiling my
ancesterial file for some 20 yrs & have some 16000+ names which all are
connected in some way. I have Legacy 5.0 & they provide a 'shell" for
creating a web page. However it will not do what I would like. I want a site
in which I can present my ancesters & my wife's also. Legacy won't do this.
Before some one advises "create on yourself" let me say when it comes to
computers I'm not the "sharpest knife in the drawer" So I'm just asking for
some friendly advice. On "the cuff" of course.

Re: WEB SITES
Most genealogy pages all have the same format as the info is all the same,
just the data differs.
If you dont like Legacy because it doesnt show ancestors have you changed
the selection on the web generation window to show ancestors - on V6 it is
on the right hand side.
There is a program ged2html which I have used in the past but it is very
similar to what you get from Legacy. http://www.starkeffect.com/ged2html/
You can also use PHP Gedview http://phpgedview.sourceforge.net but you need
a server that supports PHP.
The other way is to generate a report in Legacy edit is in Word or similar
and publish it from there. Word makes awful HTML so the purists dont like
it but it works.
True purists go to Notepad or similar to create web pages but that it just
all too much work for me.
Lately I have taken to using Legacy to produce a .pdf to share - that way
people get the photos as well. You can put the .pdf on your website for
others to read.
If this is all gobblygook get back to me and we can do it step by step if
you like

Re: WEB SITES
Sorry, just looks like a pedigree to me no real difference to many others.
You have just presented it differently.
What I meant was most have either pedigree, ancestors or descendants of
certain people on them - there isnt much other options is there really?
